Need help with double clutching

Do what you normally do floating, just put your foot on the clutch and lightly press it down as you slip it out of gear - let out, rev up and lightly press as you slip it in the lower gear -

Basically I'm trying to say - "Make it look like what they want to see happening"

If that makes any sense.

I went through a similar situation years ago.

 

I think that is the thing that gets us. Thinking it's so different from slipping. When it really isn't.
Think about using the clutch to just take pressure off of the gear change. Keep doing the same you usually do. (like above advise) Add the clutch in it.
When slipping out of gear. Use the clutch to make it easier on the gears.
When going into gear. Just wait till after you started revving the engine up. Actually the revving up is just trying to match engine speed. (you already know that)
You really don't use much clutch at all. Just a little of it.
I found double clutching helps in situations like hills.

Yep.
Even when floating, if you miscalculate, that 2" depression of the clutch can help with the sync as long as the RPM level is in range.
Happens to the best of us.

OP.. hopefully you don't have an instructor that wants that clutch to hit the firewall just because the book says so.

 

been driving 35 yrs, don't think I could pass a driving test with these by the book kids.

 

Use your own heart as a timepeice combined with one rpm at torque just above lugging to come out of gear and wait a few heartbeats while engine revs to the high horse RPM speed you need to clutch in next gear. Don't think. Just do and it will do.

 

Floating and double clutching kinda go hand in hand, same basic principle except when you mash the throttle and come out of gear and rev to go into gear or out of gear you use the clutch to go out, rev then clutch to go in. Just swap your clutch for the throttle?. Easier to watch someone do it and kearn that way

I once tried to float a farmall tractor upgrade.

The staffers laughed me off the horsefarm. Lesson learned. All I got was a double piston rev in that classic tractor style trying to get up there and then out of gear and fall over half dead. You had to stop stabilize and then get a gear and walk on. Ugh. Tractor (Farm tractor school...) You learn.
