They weren't affected by it so it's business as usual for them. They have 2 delivery appointment times per day so if you miss your time, it might be days before they have another opening. And this being Miami, there isn't a whole lot of parking options. And this is one of the bigger commercial window manufacturers with facilities all over the country, so telling them to pound sand is more likely to end up costing the driver their job because with the glass market being so slow for everyone, carriers can't afford to lose a customer this big. Glass isn't like general freight, there is a fineite number of places to deliver and only a handful of shippers

Well, plans have changed a bit. Before I left the truckstop, I asked my DM if everything is still set for a 5 am delivery...10 min later, I get a call from him, 1st, making sure I am in a safe location and 2nd, telling me to sit tight. They got an Email from them saying they are closed because of the storm and that they will notify when they are going to reopen...too bad I didn't find out this info earlier, I could have split my hometime around the delivery...never the less, I am making $150/day just to sit here and wait...then my DM said that this won't affect my requested time off once I finally get home.

Everyone buys windows at some point or knows someone who does. I could never figure out the poor treatment of drivers at certain window manufacturers and think it never cost them sales. This being said I have never purchased a PELLA window and love my MARVIN Windows. The funny part is that I have not delivered to either one in 20 years but that still sticks with me on buying decisions yet today.

I'm not sure who consumer grade window manufacturers buy their glass from. I have never delivered to any of their manufacturing facilities. We mostly haul to places that produce windows for commercial buildings and to contractors that install windows in residential construction projects. Most of our customers don't sell to the general public or to the big box DIY stores. With business being down right now, there are ample empty trucks to cover demand, so if one trucking company drops the ball, they'll just load another company's trailers. As much as I like open deck and hauling glass, it's starting to look like my glass hauling days are numbered...especially when things are slowly being converted from the Moore way of doing things to the Wylie way.

I did hear from my DM today, just before 10 a.m.. I deliver at 5 in the a.m., I think. When he asked when I could be at the customer, I told him 3 hours, so if they don't want to unload after noon, it will be when they open. He said he would email them, but I never heard another peep out of him about whether or not it was a confirmed time or not, so I am going in as we discussed and if they don't want it then, I will just add another 225 out of route miles and go park in Ft. Pierce for another day. Right now, my give a crap supply tank is bone dry.

If old castle puts their lock on your air line after they make you disconnect your truck from the trailer make sure the guy with the key doesn't take off for the day.
