I'm out of Lakeland and know a few people at Publix that went dock to driver.. one guy went from janitor to dock to driver in 3 years.. it's possible. You're right on, plenty of companies that will let him make that jump.

It’s the same thing with an hourly job.

To add insult to injury, the guy that knocks out a 20 stop run in 10 hours actually gets paid less than the lowlife who takes 14 hours to do a mere 6 deliveries.

There’s a lot of bad attitudes in the LTL business, and that is one big reason why.

That's why I was in a package car for so long at ups and went back to it after a few years tugging a box around. Bonus pay. Knock that 13 out in ten and get paid for the 13. At coke I was incentive pay too but not anymore now that I'm doing the line haul thing. Nice thing with this job now is nobody can really milk it because they are pretty good at running your clock out. If you dick off you are gonna get stuck on the side of the road then the bottling plants won't get what they need and then I imagine the driver would be out of work if it becomes a regular thing. (I have been told it will happen from time to time due to weather and traffic tho).

Every Single profession has a rough patch. Nothing is perfect, you just have to make the best of it. Working with people is never easy.

You can call BS on it all you want. That is fine. It's your opinion, but the numbers don't back you up.

Unfortunately, since our industry is based on a human moving very large objects very fast and on the same roads as the general public, this isn't a job you can do right after High School. Technically, you can drive interstate after the age of 21, but most places don't really want to take a whiff on any drivers until age 23 or even age 25.

So that means that trucking was not the first option for many of these drivers. (Not all - in fact I would say a large percentage of drivers had fathers/uncles/grandfathers who were also truck drivers and were always headed this route and were biding their time.) But for most drivers under 40? This was the second choice, the backup plan. The Plan B of careers. Its tough to hear, but chances are they failed at something else before - and were told that Trucking was easy and Truckers make decent money for just sitting there and driving down the road. They were over-sold and under-delivered.

When we have millions of CDL holders on the road and still 95% wash out in 1 year or less, you start to see the pattern. If I had a $1 for every driver I have heard say "I'm not scared of hard work and doing it the right way" and then turning around and skipping their pre-trip, I could retire.

Or every driver I have met that jumps from signing bonus to signing bonus, or falls for the same stupid CPM manipulation we all see in the same ads every day... And they are part of the 5% that made it!

Yes - 95% percent of drivers wash out in year one. There are tons of reasons why this happens. No, its not 100% because those people are all crappy failures at life. But the ones who have ALL of this information at their fingertips and can't tell the difference between a good company and a bad company making insane promises? And then they still blame everyone but themselves? Come on. Pattern recognition and "betting the streak" come into play at that point. I hate to use idioms, but "Fool me once..." starts to make a lot of sense. Most scammers target the elderly, but in trucking? The Scammers target lazy & greedy folks of all ages.

And once you've convinced yourself that the whole industry and everyone else in it is the problem and you are doing things perfectly? Its a hard mindset to recover from.

If you want to get advice from angry, bitter failures - go ahead! Look around! There are thousands of posts from them on every Trucking site in the world. You won't have to look hard.

But if you want to be successful? Swallow your pride and talk to someone who is already successful. Its not rocket science. Yes, some truths are going to sting, but who cares? If you want to be successful and make money in trucking, the model for how to do that is readily available. They are also on every truck site in the world, but there aren't as many of them, and they aren't writing the most popular posts. Somewhere in the last 30 years, truck drivers have confused "doing my job the right way" for "Butt Kissing".

You keep talking to the Uncle Rico's of trucking about how he could have won state if the coach wasn't so busy screwing him over.
I'm gonna talk to, and advise other people to talk to, Peyton Manning instead.
