Good thinking - haven’t tried the air drain. I’ve tried brakes set/released.
Awesome, that’s good information there. I knew somebody would have come across the opt idle before.
The scan guage dhows ‘0’ on the TPS when released - by multi function, do you mean it’s a variable resistor and then a switch function at zero?
I appreciate your time and help.

Freightliner and international (I’m not sure where you’d find it on your truck) mounted the opti idle hood tilt switch by the headlights, it’s usually a small plastic rectangular box with 2 wires coming from it. It is a mercury switch that senses the hood is open and disables the high idle. Sometimes the box corrodes internally or gets knocked around so it loses its bearing.
The 2 wires have to make contact with each other in order for switch to “read” the hood is closed, so you can put a jumper wire in it’s harness to bypass or test it -
I have a friend that would put minimum securement, less than legal minimum, because he was running a side kit. He was banking on the DOT not looking inside the trailer. If he was running skidded coils, he would just chain the first and last one. He would say he would be able to anticipate any traffic mishaps and avoid any issues.
Those pictures are a great example of why that’s a terrible idea. -
When it's an XL Timmies kinda morning.
Morning all. Enjoy the weekend! -
Well we are really clearing some cobwebs on this one. The TPS shows throttle as a input to ECM in percentage 0-100, but sometimes serves as a Idle validation switch showing a second input signal to ecm. Some used a brake switch to show idle. I would look for a two wire switch that is mounted to the hood, and or a wiring diagram to the air switched under the dash. Either can be jumped to test. This one its hard to guess, the system was detroit diesel, but installed by truck manufacturers. Not all brands wired the same. Could have a switch on the back of the dash valves to. But I doubt that on a Pete. A old prolink. and look for open, closed, switches, or non existent. Or one with a high or low value is the way to go. But if you locate all switches/sensors you could test each one If you know if they are normally open, or normally closed.Last edited: Sep 7, 2019

Up here the first thing they do after asking for your bills is to slide open the tailboard and count the coils to make sure it matches the bills. Incase you only gave them one set of bills.
Uhmmm some guys have been know to hang a drop curtain on bows stopping visibility. It works sometimes and sometimes does not work. Best on night jobs. -
@blairandgretchen Im gonna be gone for awhile this am, I can dig out books when I get back. Not sure the set I have include optimized idle or not.

Another local business bits it. -
This silver nut on my n14 that says on is for the coolant filter correct? I'm changing and flushing today and the coolant filter is bone dry. Cant get the valve to budge either way and nothing leaked out of it when I took it off.
I'm guessing leave the filter off and fill it with water to see if it's going to run out of the housing -
Or just put old water filter back on to be safe.
