Coming over from open deck

I never thought I would switch from open deck to anything else. But retiring from my unexploded ordinance work and turning to trucking full-time required some changes. For whatever reason, i’ll be making more weekly pulling a mobile fridge then oversize loads with last company..I would’ve never guessed! But here I am taking on this new adventure in a beautiful long nose Pete.

New things
1. I must have nine light switches in this rig. Each of them control some kind of chicken light, back up light, or got a look cool light. - i’m loving it!
2. My lumper experience has not been bad so far. My lumber experience has only been once doing with this refer thing! I still find it weird that you pay for someone to take their product. On the open deck side of the house I never seen anything like it.
3. Apparently some places charge you money to deliver! Let me explain, Upon arrival at a produce receiver I had to pay $25 to enter. That’s more than a minor League baseball game. I will not be surprised if I have to pay to leave in the future!
5. In open deck I loved bringing unique items to building sites. Watching your loads get offloaded with cranes and put into factories was really neat. The other day I picked up steaks and brisket at a meat processor while cattle were being unloaded at the other end. How neat is that!
6. I’m so green, there is no number 6!

Hey @Ffx95 I haven’t Had the privilege to experience hunts point yet!

 

Sitting in the back row on a 34 with the open deck guys. One of them saw me installing a CB in the truck and offered some electrical connectors. Chatted for about half an hour while I was playing around with it. Go to miss The flatbed camaraderie. Wood I will not deal with change who I am though, I will always great every other driver as I walked by and offer help when appropriate.

Myth- All lumpers are terrible.

Delivered to a place in Texas. The lumper came out to greet me even before I could collect my paperwork and come to the office. I backed up through a road with heavy residential traffic. The lumper took his own initiative to come out and warn traffic. I have nothing but positive thoughts on the receiver and the lumper. I always aim to be courteous and provide a professional service, it warms my heart to see others do the same.
