Bump a dock too hard. Reverse becomes 1 st. Lol Used to drive the hell out of one locally. When I blew the turbo, and smoked the engine, it shot flames 15 feet into the air, burning the overpass. Still ran it 15 miles to the barn

I never saw a mack spin backwards, but I have seen one 3406 spin backwards, I did not think that was possible.

If memory serves my original DD manual even calls for SAE 40.

Yeah, I did, once. I was at my very first job, in a R model with a trainer.

I was starting on a hill and stalled out. Not sure how I did it, but suddenly the engine sounded funny, and puffs of exhaust were coming out the filter can.

Trainer pulled out the paddles and yelled "Let the clutch out!!!" three or four times. So I did.

Engine stopped. Trainer looked at me, he was all pale and sweaty.

"Do you know what just happened?"

    "No", I said.

"The ENGINE was RUNNING the WRONG WAY!!!!"

    "Oh."

I had no idea, at the time, that such a thing was possible, or how much damage it could do to the engine......

One of my customers has a later GMC Astro. Former road truck that's now used as a spotter. Has an 8V92 in it I believe Double stacks. The guy that drives it winds it out in every gear that he can. Never a sweeter sound!

One of the fastest trucks I ever drove was an xtended hood 359 with an 892 in it, back then it was a horse, and with a 13 spd and tall rubber would motivate right on down the road.
