It is a money maker for companies that make the machines.
They diagnosed me with sleep apnea, and I’ve never been more tired than I am since I started wearing it.
If I leave the company I am at, I will gladly lie on my next exam and not have this POS in my life:CorsairFanboy, Midnightrider909 and Dark_Majesty_06 Thank this. -
Sleep apnea's CPAP machine doesn't cut heart risk - CNN -
Just try loosing weight, they check your neck size at the DOT clinic and if your neck is over so many inches you automatically get flagged as having a sleep apnea. Losing weight will help you get rid of wearing stupid cpap and you;ll sleep better, feel better overall.
CorsairFanboy and rachi Thank this. -

So the CPAP is supposed to reduce the risk that drivers will fall asleep at the wheel? There are no less than 1000 things that can make a driver tired enough to fall asleep at the wheel ! Why does the industry single out sleep apnea?
Should we be tested for sleep quaility? Not enough delta or rem sleep might be worthy of yet another restriction on a driver. Too hard a bed or sleeping too many times at truck stops. A bad circadium cycle from too much night driving...yet another. And the pee test should it include testing for chamomile tea and tryptophan from too much turkey at Thanksgiving--both of which will make you nod? Should they all part of the "medical exam"?
Nope, I think an 11 inch neck size (10.75" is ok!) should not require an expensive test and compulsory equipment to prove you can drive safely. And blood pressure, another pet peeve of mine--139 systolic is ok for 2 years but 140 is a 3 month certificate? Gimme a break.
The overregulation of this industry is clearly either the influence of lobbyists who have some agenda to limit the importance of trucking in goods transport, or those selling a product. Remember when the pee-test came on the scene and suddenly a whole slew of medical corporations expanded to make money accommodating the mandated pee tests? It's big business collecting that yellow water every time a guy gets a job or applies for a CDL.
Conclusion: If there's not an actual driver shortage there sure as hail will be one when drivers are finally regulated out of existence. And those of you advocating doing an end-run around these ridiculous regs have my respect.Last edited: Sep 29, 2019

They don't EVER assign a CPAP without you in a sleep lab and a whole night observing you sleeping on a video.
It's a bit complicated because you need levels adjusted after they and yourself--- pick the most comfortable nasal pillow.
Then they must monitor your oxygen levels, ease of breathing, humidity level, air flow level, temperature of your mist coming through the tube.
It's NEVER a one size fits all thing....
Trust me,See a doctor that is a Sllep Specialist cuz they get paid by your insurance. Company to make you love your CPAP.
I love mine and go nowhere without it.
Yeah, first night in the sleep lab was kinda weird with wires glued to your scalp, but Technicians help you get them off in morning, do it all for ya!
I am much happier, my health got better and I eat greens in a powder form added to anything I want.
Keeping healthy is rejecting a traditional truckers sleep and eating habits!!!
Treat yourself with love....rachi Thanks this. -
I saw Werner put guys in a hotel room all by themselves without any technicians, doctor, support team....horrible way to get anybody diagnosed or fitted for a breathing problem!!
Don't trust company, go on your own to a Specialist!!! -
