On the subject of oil, we use Delo 5w40 synthetic in everything, excavators, pickups, trucks, etc.

It is inexpensive for full synthetic, and is easier for cold weather starting. Someone told me the other day that they have removed some properties (zinc maybe?) in order to work better in new engine emission systems. Which has me wondering if I ought not be using it in the old B model.

    Thoughts!

    @superhauler

I run it for pretty basic human reasons, to be honest with you. Price or quality has nothing to do with it.

When I bought the first truck, I promised myself I would do the oil/filter/lube. Went to the machine shop and said 'Teach Me'.

I can't remember who recommended me to Schaeffers. But.

One stinky new (used ) truck owner. BFE ( little town in Missouri).

Guy talked to me on the phone. Set up an appointment. Came out to the house. Visited 2 hours. Demonstrated the product with a friction test (dunno - could be snake oil, have no idea - looked good to me). Gave me information. Gave me price lists. Gave me samples. Left and said - 'No pressure, nice to meet you'.

They deliver 30 gallon barrels to the house. They deliver within 2 days. Free over a $500 invoice. Their oil sample kits are $15 each, for Schaeffer users. Mike Tatum is his name, and I can call him at 8pm on Sunday and he'll pick up the phone, ask how things are going, and take an order if I need. Or chat if I don't.

I'm probably worth 5/8ths of F++k all for a commission to him, but I still get the same service -

Try getting that level from Speedco/TA/Petro - name 'em all. And F them all.

I learnt REAL quick we're the little guys. And we mean about as much to them as doo-doo on their large fleet licking boots.

Couldn't tell you what the oil costs - I don't care.

I see guys argue about $1 more or less a gallon here or there, from Walmart or whatever Give a F large chain that could care less about their employees or community. I'm easily sold on good, small scale, local and independent service.

It doesn’t take 3 weeks to lose track of what day it is. Less than a week for me. Usually I find out from the parts guy......
Can I get this part tomorrow? No....today is Friday.
    Oh.

    Well I
Got a little setback..... seems these heads have been milled / redecked once before. Going to have the intake valve seats countersunk deeper into the head, during the transition from exhaust stroke to intake stroke, the intake valves are barely kissing the piston. Keep in mind N14 valves are countersunk, Big Cam valves are not countersunk. Little things.....sigh! :(

My buddy who is a retired Cummins man, says he has built a few like this, but with new heads. I ask him yesterday what would be a good guess at the horsepower range when I’m done, with this particular setup ( his recipe ) he says 550-600 horse will be easy. With room to add to it. This is a little learning curve for me too, can’t expect it to be easy with a wildcat engine build lol.........
