Phil Mahony, Mahony Transport, is where I started. Gruff old man. I ran a 6 wheeler doing basically LTL freight, precariously unloaded from B-Trains at 5am each morning.

Worked till 5-6pm most days, 6 days. I’d come in on Sunday and sweep up and organize the depot, just hang out basically.

I guess he warmed up to me after a while, had me take the cab over and flatbed out to learn to shift a Road Ranger box, and paid for me to get my Heavy Trade license.

Tester chided me for my poor shifting. Had me stop half way on the test to show me how to shift it.

Couldn’t get it into gear. Gave up and handed the wheel back to me. Passed with flying colors.

Phil died under a truck, electrocuted I think - heart attack.

Point of the story, somebody has to give you a chance.

I ain't gonna lie and say I didn't have my days where I thought I knew more than I did. These days I would rather keep my hat low and hope nobody thinks I know sh.it from wild honey, it's much easier to get by this way.
