I’ve had this 2007 Volvo daycab for a few months, but only driving it today for the first time since bringing it home.

Leaving my yard bobtail I didn’t have the passenger seatbelt on, but a pile of stuff on the passenger seat. Seatbelt light on the dash was flashing, I had my seatbelt on.

After 1 mile the STOP light on dash came on, I pulled to the side of the street. Truck died. I restarted, it started right up. I plugged in the passenger seatbelt so the light would go off.

I’ve now made it about 20 miles down the road with no issues.

Could it really of been the seatbelt putting the truck into shutdown mode?

This is an old fleet truck. It’s possibility they had it programmed to do that, but I didn’t even think that was an option until now.

Probably depends on the programing of the ECU. I have never seen it setup to go into shutdown mode over seat belts. I regularly drive a Volvo day cab around plants that are large enough that it would cause it if it were going to happen.

But, you never know, without reading the ECU

If there is a sensor in the seat, yes.
    Or could be totally unrelated.

I have a New Holland skid-steer that has two sensors in the seat,
and if you don't have the seat belt around you,
not just together on seat, it wont start.
I bought the thing from a guy that just had it sitting for years.
He couldn't get it to start. Fixed all the green, corroded seat wiring
connections, bought a new seat, pulled all kinds of crap
out of the two buttons that operated the switches when you sit down.
Still nothing, put the seat belt around me, instead of on seat, nothing.
Then un-clipped the belt, and let it fully retract - click - I heard a relay
    in motor compartment reset. STARTED!!!
So each time I have to fully retract the belt,
    to get starter circuit operational.

I’ve never heard of such a silly programming to do that. Crazy. I wasn’t even sure that was an option.

Unplug that seat belt latch wire under the back of seat and stick a paper clip in it. It's simply grounding a circuit. Plead the 5th if ever questioned.

Dealer could turn it off if it was your truck.
