I hear that! I’m still cursed with my dads ways lol. He was a true believer in getting everything out of a set of tire. Sometimes I’d swear you could see the air trying to escape in some of our old farm tires

There are more dry Van loads then open deck loads. Don't let nobody fool you. The rate might not high but you have more to choose from on the van side. Some say they'll come clean about going to an all van company lol it's coming

Thanks for the input. I just knew of a guy (not Mercer) that made a ton of money in flatbed by running multiple LTL loads along a coordinator than settling for just one load along the corridor. And that was intriguing. I'm planning on starting at Roehl to get my CDL and have read that the terminal I'd be going to for training is dry van only. So I think I will put in 2 years there, ~3 years at a flatbed company, and then consider the costs and rewards of buying my own truck at the stage or spend that money on some land and a house/shop and go back to the state. I am just curious in the direction Mercer is heading. I really love the attitude of Mercer drivers I've met compared to just about the rest of the trucking industry. They're different and unique in every way.

Yeah... some are crybaby little b itches but for the most part they’re fairly decent. Get some experience and then decide what you want to do from there. Remember that there ups and downs in our industry and it all ain’t unicorns and rainbows
