So apparently, according to Washington State's tax codes, a truck purchased by a company or individual with a MC/DOT number is exempt from paying tax on the purchase but if you don't have a MC/DOT you do have to pay the tax. I guess I don't get it. Why that is that the dividing line? This puts "Lease-Ops" at a disadvantage compared to anyone with their own authority. This just seems off, and yet, there it is...
RCW 82.08.0263: Exemptions—Sales of motor vehicles and trailers for use in transporting persons or property in interstate or foreign commerce.
Any comments? Is there a way around this?

What?
You produce a contract from a carrier, it is the same as your own authority.redoctober83 and stillwurkin Thank this. -
I am an O/O based out of Wa and bought a truck and avoided the sales tax but only because I got a dealer in WA to fill out some form to make it exempt. It was a PITA.

Just lease it onto carrier in WA and you don't have to pay tax. I do agree that this tax bs has gone way too far. WA is one of the most taxed states to live in.

Now with regards to WA state, all you need to do is give them an mc# that is yours or show them this truck will be used in interstate commerce by providing them a copy of your operating agreement with a carrier that has an interstate authority.
