Hi, I've got a 12.7 Detroit and im wanting to bump up the power significantly and figure it would be better to just start with a 14 litre to begin with because my 12.7 doesn't have piston Oilers. My 12.7 injectors are getting worn as well and I was wanting to go with a cam and turbo if I upgraded the engine so why not just put together a 14 litre? I guess what I need to know is what I need to bolt the 14.0 in place of my 12.7? Ecm the same? Will my valve cover and other parts work? Just trying to get as much info before I try and find a 14 litre. Thanks
12.7 to 14 litre

Why would you want to? Isn't a 14 Litre a EPA truck? A EPA engine to overhaul is around 30k You can pretty much rebuild a 12.7 with new everything for 15k... What kind of power are you talking about?

a rebuild on a 14l around these parts is 15-16k

That 12.7 can't just be turned into a 14L. You already have one of the best engines out there. I would just get it rebuilt and put some good upgrades like a bigger turbo, polished and ported intake, ect, ect. Then top it off with an awesome custom tune and that truck will rock.

Detroit made a Series 60 in 11.1L, 12.7L and 14L. All were available before EGR.
BTW, the EPA has been regulating on-road diesel engine emissions since at least the early 90's. Why do you think they went to electronic controlled engines? Mechanical fuel pumps were not precise enough to control the emissions output, so electronic unit injectors were developed for more precise fuel control.beastr123, mp4694330, cke and 1 other person Thank this. -
You might get some good knowledge out of it.86coe, Rideandrepair, cke and 1 other person Thank this. -
Isn't it drilled for piston oilers? Good ecu tune and s475 is a good starting point
Rideandrepair Thanks this.
