The big issue with mercer and has been is a lack of freight..for well over a year..no one is going to stay with lack of freight...even office folks have told me such...constantly 400mi dh are pathetic especially when when loads pay just over $2 mi making the ttl rate close to $1.50mi...I've even seen that they were posting loads on broker board without putting them on in house board first...these were loads that were 5days out...

Sorry you didn't understand that reply was sarcasm.

And I took one of those loads, it was 13 miles from where I delivered this morning. Goes to 55 miles from the house, or 50 miles (opposite direction) to my load on Thursday. The load coming to NY paid enough that I planned to just go home empty, so this is a nearly pure profit load from that point of view. 14,202 on the weight so tolls will cost $15 more than empty on the PATP and will use a little more fuel.

I'm amazed how some are still trying to find all kinds of negativity about 3.10/mi while also complaining there are no loads available ... things just don't add up as far as I'm concerned. No freight in areas where others have never had a problem, so many people not understanding the difference between a company using a broker to get loads moved versus a 3PL that handles all their loads, and the constant insistence of "cut & paste from load boards" that is so ridiculous, etc..

It's not about the system is about being able to self dispatch and run a truck. It's easy to do when you get $1 a mile for all miles and have a dispatcher. The majority of guys that come from that type of system aren't cut out to run for any self dispatch outfit.

No it's not rocket science but it does take someone good with numbers and that's not a lot of people's strong suit.

Wasn't trying to find negativity in the load. Just pointing out how $3.10/mi doesn't mean it's a good load. Fortunately for you, it was, and that's good.

What if you had to be at the shipper on Monday, wait until Wednesday while they load your trailer, then deliver on Friday. The load weighs 50k lbs, and the gross pay is $150.

Is it still a good load?

But it pays $3.10 a mile.....

If everyone would get the /mile mentality out of their heads, we'd all be doing a lot better.

lol, I was confused also. But reread it, he said "never not gotten", which is the same as he always gets one.

Read my post again. You missed a word.

Edit to add: the system is basic. When an agent puts a load in the computer system it runs down the board of empty trucks with first empty first offered, if no empty truck takes it the any one can grab it and there is no board position. First one to grab it gets it.

Sounds simple right? So why is it so many say you got to learn the system? Well that's because are arent talking about how the board and who gets the load works. It's more of learning how the freight market with in Mercer works. And that takes time and a lot of effort. Things like learning lanes and more importantly, freight patterns in different regions. Learn when do the good loads hit the board so you can try to get one. Every region is different. In some areas the best loads don't get outdated till the morning they wasnt to shop it. In others it's the afternoon before, and in some cases its last week or even last month
