Well is going great I passed all the assessments this AM. Everyone is so helpful classmates encouraging and helping each other. It like a breathe of fresh air. Just listen to the CDTS and apply the knowledge they give you at the end of Monday. Don’t forget Monday and Tuesday are practice days, don’t get discouraged you aren’t going to know everything. Pay attention attitude and willingness to learn and practice and study and you will make it through just fine.

Thank you. I’ve read many times on here that attitude is important. I’m glad to hear that. Nobody wants to work with know it all truckers with bad attitudes. Thanks for the info.

We have plenty of know it alls. But yes, leave the attitude at the door. You will get checked regardless of age or experience.

The Wal Mart drivers in this forum are so helpful and encouraging. It's actually confusing. I found a FB group for wm drivers and joined, thinking "moral support for newbies, help with things I learned but forgot during on boarding, etc" the welcome message they sent to me said I should keep quiet and lerk until I could get a feel for the group. Didn't take long to realize this is because MOST wm drivers hate the new hires. That group is for driver venting. I understand that. WalMart drivers have A LOT to vent about.

When you get hired it will have absolutely nothing to do with your 20+ accident free years of driving, nor will it have anything to do with the 3 driving tests, 3 backing tests, or 3 COMPLETE DOT INSPECTIONS that you completed during on-boarding, if you get hired it is because "WALMART LOWERED THEIR HIRING STANDARDS". Funny thing is, if just one or two of those drivers would come on the forums and tell the truth about Walmart, I for one would not be here now.

So I'm going to tell the truth about wal mart. I am still a wal mart driver, I plan to stay for at least 2 years at I need to prove myself. I have not been in trouble for anything. No late loads, accidents, no camera events. I do not hate wal mart or the drivers.

SLIP SEATING: They try to keep you in 1 truck for your 5 days. But 2 or 3 trucks is not uncommon. So you work your 12 to 14 hours, move your belongings to a new truck. Then you have to wipe EVERYTHING down, go vacuum it out, take it through the truck wash. You are earning time for PTO but you are not earning money. expect it to take 1 to 2 hours.

MONEY: I've talked to a couple of people with 4 to 5 years at this DC that have never come close to the $89000 promised. This is a grocery dc, I don't know anything about GM.

Cameras: Out facing, DRIVER FACING. And an audio recorder above the drivers head.

Camera events: Following too closely. Speeding (speed limit is 75 but if your truck does 72 it's speeding). Not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. Hard brake. These things will turn your camera on and you will get called in.

wait times: waiting for your load to get ready at my dc is very common, no we do not get paid for sitting there waiting.

Have to spot a trailer or two? No pay. It's a "courtesy" we give the store. Who's this "we" seems like it's only the driver giving.

Time off: The main reason I'm staying. We get lots of it!

Job Security? NO. I have seen wal mart close complete departments almost over night. They could decide one day they want to go back to OTR companies.

A safety manager made a statement "I've been known to just go out and start searching trucks". I heard him make this statement myself. This told me exactly how much Wal Mart trusts and RESPECTS their drivers.

I also have heard that safety randomly follows trucks, watching them.

Walmart is a job. Not a family, a job! It's a lot of hard work and extremely high stress, is the money worth it? I believe the money depends on the DC you are based at and YOU.

I am not trying to discourage or encourage anyone. I just want you to make an informed decision, maybe not be disappointed like so many.

And if you do make it over here....CONGRATULATIONS!!! I know it was your ATTITUDE and your SKILLS that got you here.

this is what happens when you join the wm sour drivers on facebook. they complain all the time. thats the main reason they dont get the good stuff. the office staff is listen. my office #2 boss will tell you this. the ones with the highest ADP dont do all of the above. the best thing you can do is not get involved with that attitude. say hi get bills and be gone

    betterroad and richardc Thank this.
