0E392204-0FE2-46DA-BEE9-6C15D0332BB5.jpeg The oil pressure shows 0-100 quickly; then the red light comes on and it beeps and hangs there... This happens intermittently and not every time I start my truck......2016 Prostar Cummins

    Stop the engine.

Probably just a bad oil sensor, but you may have no oil pressure.

Definitely an electrical, gauge or sensor issue as the gauge is going beyond full scale.
    It's not dropping to zero.
I also believe if it had no oil pressure the automatic shut down would kick in and shut the engine off.

I once drove a 95 Freightliner FLD120, had the same issue, stopped and called in, *rare pay phones that you don't see anymore..* and was told that truck has an electrical issue, it does that sometimes, just keep running it.
About 50 miles later, I'm on the side of the road with the engine cooked because the oil pump was out.
I got a ride with another driver *yes that used to happen if you called out on CB* and got to another payphone and told them,
It wasn't electrical, to pick me up at the little fuel stop on the way with the tow truck.

    laaylor and Cabinover101 Thank this.

Following up: this is an intermittent problem.. but, I did notice a strange whirring noise coming from the engine today at times.. maybe the oil pump IS failing........:(:(

When you have no oil pressure, the gauge will be at zero, not 6-oclock. Pointing straight down is the clusters way to show the gauge is not getting proper data anymore. Are you getting a check and or stop engine light too?

    AModelCat and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

Nope, it just flips from 0 to 100 and the red light on the oil pressure guage cones on and beeps... then stays there...
