I did quit, had another job lined up anyway, after a month the company finally sent verification of employment to the new company.
Just letting the OP know, some companies won’t pay, even if they offer.
The company, after I called the main office, have the safety guy personal cell # also the regional manager, they kept a terminal manager everyone hated because of his own actions.
I trained most of the drivers at the memphis terminal, when I left, it cost them 4 other drivers, they left also.

yes, this was true many places i had worked at as well, time off, as much as i needed, but no pay....

i earned days off/vacations as i got my seniority, like at any other job.

what i liked was, during the slow times, one company would "split loads", so we all had loads going south, cuz there was always liquor, or cigs, or electronics coming back up.

when those slow times came, and since they were splitting loads, taking time off was no big deal.

this gave another guy or 2 to get in an extra load that week..

then i had my times when i gave nothing away.......but no one could say anything to that, either.

It was for my mom’s funeral, she died while I was in route to Hopkinsville, Ky, I did a drop and hook, and came back, dropped trailer, moved truck out of the way, then had things to attend.

I’ve only been out here 22 years but time off has always been a priority for me. That’s why I liked the company I used to work for so much. Weekends off at home plus all the time off you wanted like I said above. Even now with my own truck I take 5 days off every 3 weeks, plus I take one full week off each quarter. Guess maybe I should have been a banker?

as an o/o, you can take off all the time you want.

as a company driver (and the o/p is apparently not) he has to work and get vacation time he earns.

he wants (as i read it) paid vacations and all the vacations he can get.(the BEST vacation package) as he put it.....

he'd be lucky to get a vacation in the first place, paid holidays as well.

so yeah, for him, go to banking school.....or rob a bank and have "paid vacation times", between heists..???

yeah, sorry to hear that your company "docked you" vacation time, that just plain ole stinks.

this is one of many reasons why many companies cannot keep GOOD drivers. i am not saying that these companies HAVE to "give" a lot of paid time off, but "what if" you had to do jury duty?

"what if", you had to put your mom into a nursing home?

there are as many "what if's" as there are actual circumstances, we all know that.

but even a one day bereavement pay would be better than nothing.

i had been asked many times, if i wanted to use a vacation day, for whatever i needed to be home for..many times, i said no, i'll make up the money in no time.

but for your company to just dock you that time, and NOT ask you first, stinks.

Usually you get vacation pay (less than you would actually make) but no real time off. But that was in my day, things might be better now.

At my old job when I was just a driver they took our pay for the year and divided it by 52 and that was our vacation pay the following year for however many weeks you had. And then we were allowed to take as much unpaid time off as we wanted. We had people that had to work all the time because they couldn’t afford to take time off, which made it easier for those of us that had our finances in order to take a couple weeks off whenever we wanted. I’ve never understood the mentality that you have to work 24/7/365 to be a “real” trucker.

I told the terminal manager the old line before I left.
“There are two types of truck drivers, those who live to truck, and those who truck to live. My life is more imporant than any old truck.”

Then I bought one, now it’s the saying, “Truck eats before you do.”

Well, That didn't take long! Wanted to thank you for completely blowing my post out of proportion, AS USUAL, on here!!!

I was asking a question, because I saw a couple adds for drivers with "vacation" packages that seemed out of proportion for "new drivers" to a company.

But as usual on here, we get someone like you who shoots off at the mouth rather than asking WHY i'm asking such a question!

I understand how vacation works and am not trying to find the best vacation packages so I don't have to work, I was asking because I was wondering if this was the latest "ploy" to get drivers!

    Have a great day!!!
