The trucks are governed at 70 mph and generally have the Paccar MX-13 set at 500 hp and 1850 ft/lbs torque. We have a few cummins X-15 efficiency engines set the same.

If you are someone who spends a lot of time in the truck and only stays home a few days per month then $75K is realistic, most earn between $65K and $72K but a few push $80K.

I live around the Portland, OR area so I don’t expect to be home every weekend, but With two babies at home I’d like to see home every two weeks or so

The one downside about it is it's percentage. What a load pays today might be less next week. With a recession looming, I hesitate going to work for a percentage company as a company driver.

Well stay posted and I’ll let you know how it goes. So far I’m still doing fairly well, though it takes more communication and some sitting from time to time to select the best route and put together loads.

currently I’m sitting in WI with a shear on my top deck and the whole bottom open after delivering this morning. I’m headed South and working with the planners to find a partial to make this a high profit week.

Flexibility is the key - and a passport which I need to update because some of our Canadian and Alaskan loads are crazy profitable.

Percentage no matter what is better than mileage...I've been on percentage for several years...there is no recession looming either...co's are still hiring in droves right now...

More trucking companies have gone bankrupt in 2019 than any year since the '08 recession soley because freight rates have tanked and manufacturing has receeded. The only companies I see hiring in droves are the bottom feeders for the most part. I look in the 'trucking jobs' tab daily. There are plenty of ads for KB, CRST/Pegasus, USXpress, Schneider, Werner, Melton and plenty of jobs in the $0.40's per mile. And it's the same thing at just about every other trucking job site I visit. A year ago, it was full of good paying jobs. Now, you don't see the premium jobs..that only happens when the economy is contracting. Plus next year is a presidential election year and the economy slows or receeds right before the election because companies are uncertain about the next administration's changes.

    In,08,I actually did very well...
Fuel in some places was touching $5 per gallon.

I made a killing with surcharges...Did a lot of ltl too that year, which of course made it even better, surcharges per shipment class and break,

The difference between 08 and 19 is fuel isn't high enough to get 35 40 percent in surcharge

Any plans on working towards the heavy haul division? Do you know where that division is based primarily out of? Thanks.
