Ok this may offend some people but it is kinda a big on my list of what I want to do post military. How much does it effect your bottom line to shut the truck down. This is where it will trigger som folks. I have been in the cab of a few different OTR trucks and I seem to encounter the same issues. Strong smell of BO/urine and a large piss bottle. Dose it really effect earnings to stop and take a piss and shower daily? Or were these just lazy nasty truckers. These trucks belonged to a brother, a ex father in law and a ex wife’s uncle 3 totally different personalities but the same foulness.

Earnings absolutely not, Convenience yes. I'm otr long haul reefer. I have a piss jug that I keep in the bunk so I can piss in while sleeping or in morning or just whenever. I keep a smaller piss jug to use while driving . I'd say I'd only use a urinal maybe once a month . Doesn't make me more money it just gets me down the road with out stopping or keeps me from walking in the snow that's it.

I believe its laziness.
I used a proper human number two camp toilet and supplies to take care of the wastes properly, essentially a giant litter box but made for humans. That was stored in a ready state just in case. We rarely used it. Its stored on one shelf ready to go in case of total failure of the local water which has happened a time or two on hundred year old pipes.
Number one is disposed of using a aviation catch container with proper male and female plugs so to speak, that is kept at the ready in case of the overall situation that demands it. Additional supplies takes care of the contents and makes container ready for the next flight so to speak.
Otherwise we go inside and take care of the bathroom situation. Never gave it a thought. Which is why I say it's laziness. When its time to go, you go inside and take care of it. But most drivers today would just keep a generic pee bottle which really gets bad. And so the overall impression of the industry today is less than ideal. Pretty bad actually in some areas.
Once I was on the Bridge to Canada having failed to stop at the Detrioter for that purpose so the Customs Officer had to wait a extra moment while I took care of it in the sleeper. But alls well. It was routine to stop at the Detroiter going that way because until you get to Canadian Customs to be issued your BOL from the broker there it will be lines of waiting.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
I shower daily. I make time for it. If I don't I start to stink quick. As for the piss jug. I said I would never have one. That lasted about one night. At 3 am I ain't getting dressed and walking all the way to the truck stop if I wake up having to pee. It's also handy at customers that don't have bathrooms for drivers. When I'm driving though I'll usually opt for a rest area bathroom if I need to pee. It's usually quicker than trying to get into a truck stop.

I always had a pee bottle. With the BP meds I took I would have to go every hour of the day and night. Thats 24 pee's in 24 hours!

Yes and no. Depends on situation. Some have set pick up and delivery times. So stopping for 15 minutes to take a piss at a truck stop won't change much along u make your set times. Others have an all you can eat situation. No real set pick up times or deliverys. Gey a load go deliver get anouther. So losing 15 minutes will impact how many of those you can do. So a quick pull over on a ramp for 1 minute to piss in a bottle vs 15 minutes or more at a truck stop can have a big impact by end of the week bigger impact at the end of the month.
Same goes for showering. The set schedule guy can plan his shut down locations easier along as it enable them to make the required sceduled appointments. Where as the all you can eat load guy. Can squeeze out anouther 50 or 60 miles to stop at a rest area or other location that not a truck stop running out there hours ca Greatly increasing there income by the end of the week...can be the difference of few thousand dollars every month...
I piss in a bottle if It save me 10 minutes or more and I cant wait till my next stop and dont take shower everyday. Plan for every other day if possible sometimes that dont pan out and it omg 3 days... but I know for a fact I clear 15k or more a year than a next driver doing the same loads as me. I'll confess I save empty water bottles to prevent having to put clothes on in the middle of the night or very first thing in the morning. Or for when traffic gets backed and so do I. I don't toss them out of the window, I put them in paper bags and then in plastic bags so the person dumping the trash doesn't have to look at them.
I don't shower every day, but every other. In the winter I might go 2 days in between. I don't eat truckstop garbage anymore, so I don't smell anymore either.rachi, Flat Earth Trucker and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
When does convenience become laziness? Convenience can’t just be considered laziness all the time. There are times when it’s smart to go with convenience.
