I’ve had my best year ever this year.
Been driving 31 years all as a company driver. I’ve rarely sat anywhere this year but I pull refer.

Fact 1. You don't have to run Mercer's plate. You can get your own.

Fact 2. Many now require proof of occupational accident insurance and have for far longer than mercer has. That's a very recent thing for Mercer while others have required it for decades.

Fact 3. If you choose to get a plate through merger there is several different ways to pay for it. A small amount per load is one way. Writing a check for the full amount is another.

Fact 4. Nothing in life is free. If a carrier provides a plate at "no cost" you will be paying for it one way or another.

As a company driver do you have access to the freight rates? Just because they have kept you running doesn't mean they were getting a good rate.

I could have all the freight I wanted this year at 1.50 a mile. But I prefer not to run at cost. If im not gonna make money I can do that sitting home instead of driving 10 hours a day.

Not cheerleading at all. We got good agents and those that aren't sp good. Some of our agents don't care if they put it on a Mercer truck or broker it out. No company has only good agents.

Well I hate to tell you this, but you're number one in not a fact. You HAVE to run their plate. I have already been down this road with them.

Not all carriers require occupational insurance for owner ops. I dont care how long or how many "decades " some others have required it, my point is not all carriers do. Some even take care of it at no charge.

Fact 3, again theres no choice

And 4, nobody wanted anything for free. I pointed out already that some just like doing it on their own and plan and budget the way they want. Wtf are you talking bout champ.

Yall drink wayyyyyyyy to much koolaid at Mercer

When I was there I had the option to run their plate or mine. I guess it's changed.

If it has it was so recent a change they haven't informed us of it. My lease still states I can use theirs or get my own. Maybe it's for new hires only. But considering that change was implemented to give strength to the contractor status to avoid any employee vs contractor debates in the future it doesn't sound right to me. Think it's a case of another uninformed poster. I don't know. I also don't care enough to call and find out.

Man i got me a sweet Fed Ex run this year! Wasn’t even gonna do UPS with my girlfriend since our package cancelled after 3 weeks last year but got a call about an Indy to NJ run as many turns as i can get till we need a reset then a day off and repeat. That’s well over $14k in 5 days and it’s only doubles to jersey and one empty pup back. Gonna milk this cow as long as i can, lol

Because he wont be able to be in the proverbial loop that he is in. He seems to know how to run the company and he can't somewhere else.
