    I'll play along.
    1. Coca cola, about a year
    2. I like the flexibility I have to run different jobs (line haul, delivery, yard dog), pay, benefits, my boss.
    3. Been driving for about 20 years now.
    4. I like the work, you get to be independent without a boss breathing down your neck as long as you do your job and don't cause problems. I dislike traffic and sometimes the hours get to me but that would be with any job.

The biggest piece of advice I can give it you will get out of it what you put into it. Work hard and stay positive to make it a good experience.

Serious question: did you run into things you wished you had known about beforehand when you first started driving?

    Madam LeVi Thanks this.

Of course there were. But I know how to research such questions on web sites such as this one, which offers volumes more information than asking a couple drivers of their experiences. For what it's worth, I wasn't questioning the desire to find answers, I was questioning what schools require students to do that kind of exercise because most don't. All most do is the bare minimum to get the student their license.

We try to go beyond bare minimums (I'm the instructor who assigned the interview). We're hoping that by encouraging the students to talk and listen to drivers, not just recruiters or instructors, they will be better prepared for industry once they get the license and less likely to sign up for jobs/companies that are a bad fit for them. The questions are only part of a larger research assignment, the goal of which, again, is to try to help them gain a better understanding of what their new job will be like. Hopefully.

Yes. Here's the one thing you need to know that no one has told you. Dispatchers are liars. They will tell you anything that they think you want to hear just to get you to agree with whatever garbage they are trying to dump on you.

When I first started, the older recruiter safety guy gave the road test and did similar, asking if being away from home and wife was really something I'be be able to do at a company I never worked for.

The questions are good to consider, anyway, and he didn't sugarcoat it at all.

    1. What company do you work for and how long have you been with this company?

    Mom & Pop since 1931.

    2. What do you like about your company?

I’m home every day, which leaves me plenty of time to hunt Kentuckians.

    3. How long have you been driving truck?

100 years or so; however long they’ve been around.

    4. What do you like and dislike about truck driving?

I like setting the cruise control, then turning myself into a bat and drive and watch the looks on all the other drivers at the sight of a bat driving a truck.

Anything else you would like to add.

I’d just like to say how much I appreciate this opportunity to discuss my Trucking career.

Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank all my sponsors that make all this possible:

    - Bert’s Blood Bank
    - Big Maud’s Seamstress Shop
    - Erma Jean’s House of Capes
    - Monkey Butt Bat Wing Paste
    - Honest Hank’s Dress Shoes
    - Plasma World of Transylvania

People don't know about the tricks companies like to play. They say you get home on the weekend. Their idea what of a weekend can be 34 hours off. They get you home Saturday afternoon and then you have to leave at like 3 am Monday morning to make 7am delivery.

They like to talk about averages for pay or the top drivers make this big amount of money. Drive can run about 120,000 miles a year or 10,000 miles a month. Time the pay rate per mile.
