Calling all custom sleeper guys!

New **** has come to light! I'd buy a Volvo 780 and run it awhile first if you want the biggest and most comfortable sleeper without going custom. They are huge. Then if you decide to go long term have something built or better yet buy used.

I have a sink I built in mine with a submersible RV pump and faucet and a 5 gallon Aquatainer from Walmart under the bottom bench. It works great. I just use it for washing face and hands and cooking. It drains straight to ground. I am picky about what I dump where but it doesn't seem to matter to most truckers. For bathroom, there are several threads on this but I wouldn't have any of that in the truck. There's a place to stop every few miles in this country. No need unless she is real picky.

You can put a porta-potty under the rear table and get by several days on that. They don't stink except when you open them. Keep it clean and use the chemical and it's no problem.

You can always drop trailer and flick the yard jockey or another driver $20 to spot in tight docks.

 

Well, at the end of the day you just have to make it happen. Like dropping the trailer to get fuel because your 16’ wide load won’t get through the fuel island.

The arguments against big sleepers usually pivot around weight and maneuvering in tight situations.

I’ve yet to see revenue suffer because I can’t haul a 48,000 lb load of cheap lumber or a 50k coil.

I know guys who strip everything out of the rig to make it lighter and thus haul heavy. But I’ve yet to see heavy loads for 5 axle flat pay enough to justify it.

I’ll probably never go back. Being able to make coffee, take a dump, watch telly, shower and change clothes without ever setting foot outside the truck spoils you pretty quick.

 

Seems like most guys in small trucks do all of that these days, except the showering and changing clothes part. I see the evidence in the parking lot every day

Freight don’t determine the bunk size, necessarily.

I don’t live and breathe big rigs - it’s a means to an end. But I’d rather it be comfortable.
