I wonder if they just used raw metrics i.e. just sum totals without factoring in other things such as "crashes per mile" or something like that. Having lived in Crashville for almost five years, I'd say that even though its maybe 1/4 the length of I-40, I'd say 24 is probably the worst in the state--shoot, the stretch from Nashville to Clarksville alone is pretty worrisome, to say nothing of the downtown loop itself (& 24 inbound from Murfreesboro into town).

That's funny I thought that Hwy 99 would have been the deadliest highway in California. Had 3 people killed here in the central valley (Fresno area) during November. Then there was the parachutist killed up in Lodi then as well

Now this is I consider my road in the later 90's I learned all of it in Arkansas before the interstate was built.

There is a sign at the entrance off US 40 for big rigs, this road is "Crooked" not as coiled as some angry snakes in the NE corner but crooked enough. You had to be on your game on this one. And the shifting. You think to settle down and stay in a gear? nope you get busy.

But the scenery. Worth it. Very much so.

Whats crazy about the new interstate is there is a tunnel up there, a small one apparently over a old indian burial ground. HA... so you have a choice.

They say route one for Maine.
    Deadliest highway in every state

I beg to disagree. They dont know Maine very well. The worst part is Route 1A from the end of 395 to Voilettes (pronounced vwa-lets) Landing. We see more crashes primarily because people want to pas others with asthmatic vehicles. So they try to pass at a half a mile an hour faster than the slower vehicles. Some areas there is enough room. There is one spot that unless your willing to stomp on the pedal, one should not even try.

I wonder sometimes. If you have a bad road everyone knows how to tread lightly more or less. However when you have a divided highway nice and straight particularly here in the south, you can have some really bad days.

Tons of people have been killed on 40 south of here between Little Rock and Memphis. And not to mention the little US 70 that runs along that interstate.

I have had all three lanes of US 67 in sherwood north little rock turned into a pile of overturned cars in front of me. Causing me to find a hole and get on grass at 70. The car is NOT liking that grass let me tell you, that ABS knows what it wants. Thank god.

There is one road I am happy not to have to deal with again, that would be the old US 30 west of Gettysburg PA. There are the modern US 30, and then there is the old alignment. The old section features pavement dating prior to world war two and is not really wide enough for a 96 inch tractor. I had to use it one day and told the boss that is not going to happen again.

Part for the problem was the constant problem of keeping that right steer from falling off that edge. If it did fall, the axle would have been at risk loaded.

It says they took into account the volume of traffic, which must explain why US 160 is higher than I-70 or I-25 in Colorado. Yeah, Wolf Creek Pass and lots of drunk and/or high yokels running around on 160, but I would bet more people die on one or both of the interstates just because of the volume of traffic.

I completely agree! 395 between California 14 and Interstate 15 is terrible. It should have been four laned decades ago. I've had too many close calls in that section so I avoid it whenever possible.
