I am very sad to hear that.... I bet there has been more and more trucks parked on the ramps... I have never done that....
I have parked at many and many "odd" places and even on streets overnight and empty dirt lots and abandoned fuel stations.... and even on a large shoulder on I-5 OR.....
I miss the times when it wasn't difficult to find parking at Walmart supercenters all over the country.... nowadays it's hard to find one that will allow that.. some even put low bars at all entrances to parking lot and signs of no semis everywhere....
I don't think anything will be done to increase truck parking in the country and more and more new drivers don't give a crap about parking anywhere, blocking others... it's becoming insane....
My former company reimburses parking... but in 5 yrs I may have used that 5 times... always tried to find free parking.... but I didn't park at "dangerous" or tight spots where someone might hit me or I might have difficulty backing or leaving early in the morning.. I was careful anywhere I parked... truck stops and rest areas... Thankfully never had anybody hitting "my" truck.. but sometimes I would stay awake watching the truck and would go out with flash light to help someone maneuvering next to "my" truck....![]()

In the 1970's we used to drive until we couldn't keep it on the road and pull over to the side of the road and sleep, sometimes over the steering wheel. We also ran 3 log books.
RidgeRunner731, D.Tibbitt, WesternPlains and 2 others Thank this. -
Should have caged the brakes and then you would have been able to drive to where it could be repaired. Granted if the cans dont have the service bar you cant do it.
WesternPlains, x1Heavy and Rocks Thank this. -
Trucking has been changing a lot.. but I guess it has always been changing like that.... and we are moving towards more and more autonomous vehicles, less interaction between driver and vehicle... eventually truck platooning... speed limiters mandatory on all trucks... This is the future of trucking in the USA....
WesternPlains Thanks this. -
I don't remember what the problem was that time... but there was nothing that I could have done... was 44000lbs loaded and had to be towed to International dealer repair shop.... slept in the truck in their back yard and they took care of it the following day... That truck was a cheap POS....WesternPlains and x1Heavy Thank this.

Yet now that you know. You could get it caged to limp to a dealer for service.

Psh!
Supply air to that brake either truck/trailer, back brake off, clamp air supply line going to brake pod with visegrips.
Problem solved.WesternPlains, HillbillyDeluxeTruck, lovesthedrive and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thank you. Is that good for any kind of situation when one can't move the vehicle due to no air being built? Like I said, I can't remember for sure what the problem was. I called the company's maintenance, explained what was going on to the mechanic and they sent tow truck. They didn't want drivers doing anything like that to their trucks. And I was ok with that....WesternPlains and lovesthedrive Thank this.

It is pretty much standard to any modern truck to have chambers that can be caged like that for servicing.
WesternPlains and Rocks Thank this. -
Google maps said it was 2hrs from Lubbock to the E side of Sweetwater. I rolled out at 1:45 and pulled upto the security gate at 3:37. Suck it Googlemaps.
WesternPlains, lovesthedrive, LoSt_AgAiN and 1 other person Thank this.
