    • I got here during Orientation and a European guy was complaining that they owed him $2400. The HR Manager rushed into the Safety office to threaten this guy after the guy was telling orientation students about his ordeal
    • A Haitian driver from Florida was complaining that the truck they put him in was in the shop for over a week and he had issues w/ maintenance on multiple occasions.
    • I met a driver who became my friend and he drove to Orientation in Chicago from New Jersey. We spoke a few weeks ago and he was in a truck for 3 weeks and had not been paid. He had spent most of his money on gas as he drives a Toyota Sequoia and the company would not give him an advance. They still owe him money and he is extremely upset.
    • This company has not payed me my 1st check. Advised me that they would not pay the last 2 checks or any of my Escrow when I drove home for my reset because they don't pay when "trucks are idle". If these are not red flags, I don't know what is. This company is a joke. They hang up on you when you call and will give you the run around when it comes to getting payed.
    • DO NOT WORK FOR MGL !!!!!!!

We keep telling you, stay away from Chicago 1099s.

They use all these methods to not pay drivers. They don't pay drivers, they don't pay for maintenance (drivers pay for that) and they don't pay taxes.

Really their only expense us fuel but I'm sure they steal fuel money from OOs and tell their company drivers 'pay for it we will reimburse you'. They never do...

Regarding MGL, go to Google and type in MGL Trucking Chicago. Then read the reviews by people who have been ripped off.

Run and don't look back from these Chicago 1099s.

Plus anyplace that charges employees an "escrow" is a fraud.
Of course the likely 1099 already told you that.

I get it. But, I have 14 months of OTR experience. What are my options as this point?
Should I work for a big company who's not flexible w/ home time, gives me 2200 miles a week and pays 40 cpm?

What would you suggest? I would sure appreciate it any help. .

    snowlauncher Thanks this.

    Exactly..
I’m originally from Chicagoland and even I know to avoid most of those companies like the plague!!!
You have to do your RESEARCH on these companies before you sign away (your soul) on the dotted line!

I don't know about all this.

You did not clearly state if you signed on as a 1099 or W2. There is a difference. If you were a lease or O/O you owe everything that is not stated in a contract for the company to pay such as tags etc. If you were a W2 employee and borrowed with comchecks enough to exceed your payroll each week, your check is $0.00 until you either paid them back first before anything or were fired for excessive borrowing. And you would still be owed this money and sent into collections or come after you for a judgement which will stand in court because most companies keep documents inside human resources to the penny.

Those drivers who set aside money and never borrowed in comchecks each week are building savings and money is no ever a issue. We were one of those when 9-11 came along.

The op talked about having his truck in the shop. Usually for a company driver that's pretty tough. That is what savings are for. If you are not rolling then there is no income. The side thought comes to mind in the home yard with a remuda of idle tractors, any one of which would be assigned temporarily to the driver for the workweek. You usually can make something in 5 days or a little more while the company issued normal tractor is being fixed in their shop. Sometimes the truck is deemed totaled and unfixable and you got a new tractor and nothing more was said.

Actually MGL has been operating for 10, maybe 15 years.

They probably have things worked down to a science where they can tell for how much each driver that walks into orientation can be scammed. Well maybe not exactly but within a couple hundred dollars.

'This one looks good for $3000.' ' This one looks smart, maybe only $500'. 'Idiot, let's not pay him until he quits. Maybe $7500.'

And yeah, you can bet they are talking about you when they speak Russian while standing in the same room with you... or within earshot. If If they weren't talking bad things why don't they speak in English?
