I'm looking at 2 companies. Both pay for school and training.
I want no touch freight drop and hook. 100% would be ideal but I know it may not be possible. The companies are CFI and FFE. what would you recommend. I'm 68 and just looking to drive. CFI seems to have better pay if they have the miles. FFE doesn't seem to pay as well but may have other things going.
Please be blunt.
Decision time.

Texas_hwy_287 and Chinatown Thank this.

If I choose between the two, it's FFE.
Im not sure what they have evolved to, but they have evovled since my time with them. If you are good with dispatchers around the USA you will find more work than you can shake a stick at. Its how it was for me.
I don't know too much about CFI other than the fact I think they also were up the road from FFE as a competition for the driver recruiting. I have heard some secondhand stories out of that terminal. If I wanted to work for FFE again? Not a problem. Just a few things since my time has changed.
Being 68 is not a problem if you are in good health and can pass DOT medical. Thats a blessing. Trucks in general have gotten pretty plush and better than Cadillacs. ride quality etc. (Not always) And generally push a button automatic and drive off. (UGh...)
Thats my two cents, if I had a choice between CFI and FFE. I know much more about FFE than I do CFI.Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this. -
FFE - ask @TravR1
CFI - ask @Ultratowel and @RoadRoosterTexas_hwy_287, RoadRooster, Snow Hater and 1 other person Thank this. -
I work for FFE linehaul. It is 100% drop and hook no touch. I have no complaints. @TravR1 works the plasma side.
You will be taught in a standard transmission, but will most likely drive an automatic. You are allowed to idle. They pay layover, detention, breakdown, pier diem.
Majority of Linehaul loads go out Thursday - Sunday. While waiting for another load at a terminal you will get offered to help out. (Local - hourly pay, Regional - mileage and stop pay)
Home time is easy to get. You request it two weeks in advance. I have always got home when needed.
No complaints on dispatch.
New trucks have Fridge and inverters.88228822, Texas_hwy_287, x1Heavy and 2 others Thank this. -
Thank you. Makes it more clear.

CFI is a surveillance state.

No age discrimination. I start school tomorrow with KLLM Driving school and then train with FFE.
