Companies use reports and other sources to determine whether to hire you. There are reports that are apart of your driving record and some that are not like the number of times you have left a company and the number of times you have been in orientation. When filling out a job application it will usually ask if you have attended orientation at another company. While talking to a recruiter I was told that since I left one company and attended two orientations that the probability of me getting hired was not good. So why is that? I was not asked why I left and that lets me know how they use that source of info. Let me explain. I left because I was getting paid .14 cpm and also I was not getting loads. I would sit at a truck stop for 3 days to a week. On top of that, I was given live loads where at times I sat for 30 mins to an hour or more. No matter how clean your driving record is if they don't like you for some sick reason they will find a way to force you to leave. Which will force you to apply for another job and attend another orientation at a company that will do the same. This kinda tells the next recruiter what type of person you are and allows them to discriminate before your even hire. They have adopted this strategy and it is pretty much standard though out the industry which means they are pretty much in agreement about what type of people to hire how they intend to treat drivers. You should be allowed to shop around and even attend an orientation to determine if you want to work there. Note that while waiting for loads and as your funds run out which affects your chances of making it home, they most likely will not pay for you to get home safety thereby leaving you stranded. They expect you to do something out of anger or desperation that will ruin your chance of ever getting hired like abandoning your equipment. This is my first impression of the trucking industry as a new driver and I'm sure it is the same for many others. What they do also make it hard to gain experience as a driver and after leaving two or more companies under these circumstances it gets even more difficult to reach your one year mark at which job opportunities with more pay are available.

"why did you quit?" "I was making .19 a mile" "then why did you join in the first place?"
auto324, bigblue19, TaterFox and 1 other person Thank this. -
Half an hour to an hour for live load is good. 14 cents on the other hand. What decade was this?
Dave1837 Thanks this. -
.14 cent a mile? So you were easily clearing what, about $150 a week?
snowlauncher Thanks this. -
Why did you even take a 14 cpm job? $420 a week if you get 3000 miles. You must have a terrible driving/employment record.
BUMBACLADWAR, mjd4277 and Lonesome Thank this. -
What company is/was paying you 14 cents a mile?? That’s Carolina Cargo territory. And I’m sure even that company pays more than that!

Did the OP write this back in the 1950’s and forget to post it, my gosh .14 cpm wtf
9jgf9er, exACT driver and icecold24k Thank this. -
My thoughts exactly on a good week that's 3-400 tops. I mean I could make that in the drive thru at McDonalds.

Well, I don’t know how the rest of the companies hire and, frankly, I don’t care.
This is how I operate. If you’re of 100% Kentuckian blood line, I don’t care about your work ethic, driving record, etc... You’re hired!BUMBACLADWAR, Cattleman84, mjd4277 and 1 other person Thank this.
