There is also no requirement to show 8 hours in the sleeper for your 10 to be legit. That only comes into play if you are doing 'sleeper berth provision' split.
It's been hard for me to adjust to 10 hours between working shifts after a lifetime of having 14-18 hours off between shifts. Now-a-days I often stretch the 10 hour break to 11 or 12 hours unless it is a hot load and must take a strict ten to make it ontime. If there is plenty of time and I do a ten hour break often-times I get rolling for a couple hundred miles and pull into a rest area and lie down for a couple hours then get up and finish my day.

Id rather have 11-13 hours to sleep, eat, get some exercise, relax and be presentable to the customers im delivering too. Not saying I would always take that time off duty but I feel as otr or regional drivers we've got more to take care of at the end of our days. -

YOU DON'T NEED TO SLEEP THE WHOLE 10 HOURS.
its 10 Hours off Duty which is either Line 1 or Line 2.... 10 consecutive hours of line 1 and/or 2 time
I can't believe people don't' know this -
Numb Thanks this.

Wait until you drive 20+ years you will get to where some nights 2 or 3 hours is enough.
skellr, Mr.X, Cranky Yankee and 1 other person Thank this. -
my elec. shaver stays charged for 2 wks.
2-3 hrs sleep used to be enough 20 yrs ago, not now. -
I too am dedicated, but my company delivers at night, when the buildings are closed, locked and alarmed. My "typical" work night is not really typical, as some nights it can be 4 hours long, or 8 hours long. And in bad weather, can be nearly 12 hours. So as you can see, I nearly always have more than 10 hours off.
But then too, when I ran the road, back then, we had an 8 hour break. So I could sleep a near solid 5 hours, eat, shower, shave, and have to wait till my 8 were up. Fueling always took place as I pulled into the truck stop, so I could get that all important shower ticket! -
Yeah, shouting is irritating don't you think? Never said I slept the while time. I just wanted to know how you all get it done.
Early morning is when I usually deliver. I would much rather battle the dark and my body saying, "hey you idiot. You should be asleep!" over battling traffic and 4-wheelers. Plus, parking is usually easier to find.
...that being said, I guess I'm going to have to put my foot down about some of my loads.Numb Thanks this.
