Best of luck, I don't know too much about how they work, just how they shift. If it's banging when you split the gear then it's definitely something internal. Now it's starting on another gear, hopefully it doesn't ruin the trans. I'll ask around to some mechanics at my work to see if they've heard of this happening and see if they can help
13 speed splitter problem

I've been told or read that you don't preselect a split on an RTLO for this very reason.
-
I have been told that we are not supposed to do that with the RTO, but RTLO is good for preselect. I might have been misinformed but the strange thing is that it happens just sometimes in 5th gear.
And I agree that if I'm not supposed to preselect when I go from 5H to 6L that might happen, but why does it make a bang when I go from 5L to 5H. I don't know how else to shift that except flicking the switch and releasing the pedal... -
My tranny does same thing and as far I understand me and you need to take transmission out and fix that, I'll do that when I'll be changing clutch. What I do is if you in 5L going to 5H first take it out of gear flip splitter to HiGH and put back in 5 gear I shift like for past year this is Only the way to do it smooth, otherwise you going to destroy your tranny. So that's how I shift on each gear that does that. Easy! Try, n let us know!speedyk Thanks this.

Hey bean. All 13 and 18 speeds rtlo have Always required preselect or you risk severe damage.
-
You are right, that is other way to do it without getting the bang but I don't think they designed it to shift that way...
I already paid shop to fix this problem by rebuilding it so it's under the warranty everything they have to do from now on... and they are willing to pull it out again but my concern is that if they didn't find the problem first time, they won't find it now either
And now that you said you have the same problem I feel a little better, every time I would try to explain someone that I have a problem and what it does they would look at me like I'm crazy and don't know how to drive... I grew up in trucks, driving them and fixing them all the time, I did everything from engine rebuild to brakes except for transmission, my friend broke his arm and almost got killed with transmission so I avoid that... -
That’s the only way to drive the truck unless you want to break it. I own a 18 speed pete
-
That's how I'm doing it, thank you for confirming that I'm doing it right.Chubby Fly Thanks this.

How did he almost kill himself? That’s careless and it’s no dangerous then working on anything else if you do it properly. Strap the trans to jack and don’t force the trans back in401-Alex Thanks this.

He was doing it all by him self and he isn't a very careful guy, I'm not sure exactly how that happened but he was hurt bad and couldn't work at all for months...
