I was actually going 10 over, but he said 15 and I didn't argue. The officer caught me with radar while he was moving in the opposite direction, and it was raining outside.
I have the option to fight this in court and would like some advice from CDL holders (as I don't have one yet). I don't have the means to pay for a lawyer; are there alternative options that I could put on the table for the prosecutor?
I'll pay the ticket in full; I just really don't want this one my record.
15 over ticket. fight or pay?

You can also call the prosecutor office and ask to something less than the amount...
the best way is to get a lawyer.... -
Try and get it plead down to a lower speed
fargonaz Thanks this. -
Fight it any way you can. 15 over limits you to a couple of companies only, and then only if you attend a private cdl school first. At least try to get it lowered to 10 or less over. Fight it in court and represent yourself if you have to.
15 over will hurt you for at least 3 years and some companies it's a ban for life. -
TROOPER to TRUCKER and TaterWagon#62 Thank this.

Some jurisdictions allow you to attend traffic school to avoid a conviction on your record. See if that is an option. A recent excessive speeding ticket on your record will pretty much kill your trucking career.

No jurisdiction will allow CDL license holder to attend traffic school.
astright Thanks this. -
astright, MachoCyclone and fargonaz Thank this.

Showing up for court in a suit will go a long way. You can ask for a PJC (prayer for judgement-continued), if you have a very clean driving record. This keeps the ticket off your record for a length of time unless you get another ticket. Get another ticket and they both hit your record at once.
If you absolutely can not afford a lawyer, you should go to court as clean cut as possible and explain to the judge that you are in school for your CDl, even if you are not yet.
If your record is clean, he/she will probably overlook your stupidity.
If you do get by this and you manage to get another ticket, you will suffer when trying to get a job.
Slow down
