Charging the driver and him actually paying it are two different things. Is he responsible? Absolutely! Would I charge him? Absolutely! Will he pay it? Doubtful. But if he does, I would take the money. He wouldn’t be around to work it off I can promise you that. I can’t legally hold his pay, unless it was agreed in writing upon hiring on. I’m not going to spend 1900 on a lawyer to take it to court, to win a 1900 dollar judgement. So you guys are pissing and moaning about nothing.

A friend had to have a trailer flipped over. Not the truck mind you, just a flatbed trailer with 3 pipes. All 3 pipes were still secured. The cost to just flip the trailer over (not tow it anywhere) was $15k

Driver didnt take the turn wide enuf. He should of known better but That is not deliberate damage to property.... Getting fired is bad enuf. No reason to potentially instantly make him and his family homeless by keeping his last pay check. Leaving him stranded or any other cruel twisted form of punishments.
Fire the driver or not. But there is absolutely no reason to keep what he earned on other loads. Because paying your workers for the work they done its the right thing to do. And it keep the chances of him showing up at your home drunk and depresd while your sleeping looking to end the guy that kicked him when hes down.
Hire better drivers instead of bad drivers that will eventualy do something stupid.Blackshack46 and jamespmack Thank this. -
Here's a crane that flipped over on our job, the operator, though experienced, was his first time driving pilings. No one lost their job on this one, not even my coworker who popped dirty for weed.

Ohh I don't know. Without knowing all the details its hard to judge the amount of blame.
Very well could have happened in the dark the night before. We've all been there. Pitch dark, raining and can't see crap.
A good man recons on foot, and cleans his mirrors in a driving rain to get the job done.
Getting lazy ends up like this fella.
But if it was broad daylight then he ought to get a firing squad!cke, Blackshack46, jamespmack and 5 others Thank this. -
This is a great argument supporting my belief that a person should only own 1 truck. I could never understand why someone would buy their 2nd or 3rd truck and put drivers on them.
Hiring drivers would be like playing 'Russian Roulette'
To much exposure for the little manBoardhauler, x1Heavy and jamespmack Thank this. -
Who me? Lol!
For what it’s worth we have only had one min
Me? Lol
For what it’s worth we have only had one real claim on a wing in the last year. A driver clipped a guardrail. He paid absolutely nothing out of pocket and was not fired. He will never pull a wing again but he didn’t get charged anything. That’s because we work as employees at a reputable company that follows the labor laws in their state. Not some shady fly by night company like this thread is about.cke, x1Heavy, jamespmack and 4 others Thank this.
