so I’ve been looking at a truck from a Government auction and it’s a ford l9000 double axle with an automatic transmission. I’ve been wanting to buy my own tractor to start my own company . It’s a dump truck but I want to convert it to have a 5 wheel to either haup containers or go to Texas and find work out there. What are everynones thoughts about the ford l9000

As far as the L9000 they are real decent rigs. You would be better served to find a truck set up to do what your wanting to do. Conversions always cost way more than planned.

Thanks for the reply ! And yeah that would be great but it’s super hard to find one with the fifth wheel double axle .

Before you buy this and decide to convert, figure out the transmission and axle ratios. Being an ex-government dump truck it may have been built for a specific purpose and not geared well enough to run containers or other trailers daily.

There are also regulatory hurdles to converting a straight truck to a tractor, many states have "brands" on their title, meaning it will be classed as a truck or tractor and changing type requires a reconstructed title application. This may be easy, may be hard. In Pennsylvania the process requires an application to the state, a special inspection by a garage and pictures to document the modifications. It also requires certification by a final stage manufacturer that the conversion meets all applicable FMVSS.

As for tandem axle Ford L-9000 tractors being hard to find, here are 30 day cabs from Truck Paper.
