Yes you are correct, I found out it is direct drive, truck was ordered by Seneca they bought 25 out of 26 trucks, so I got this one, they pull heavy loads and use direct drive transmissions. I was told this tranny is better than od tranny. Plus they ordered tricks with 2.64 rear end with 24.5 tires. Since they canceled freightliner changed some things in it. 2.64 to 2.47 ratio and tires.
2.64 gear ratio?

With a 2.64, your ideal transmission would be the OD unit for 80K loading and down on highways 65+ mph.
For direct, that 2.64 rear is a bit to much RPM if it's a 65+ mph highway truck... 62 may have been their max speed by the ordering company?
This is in consideration of the engine TQ band ..... Different motors with higher rpm needs will be setup different for optimization -
I ran a 2.64 direct for quite awhile, for a 12.7, it was too tall, imo.
The double over with a 3.42 seems to be about the same engine rpm per mph in top gear.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
I'm running 70mph at 1500rpm with 2.47. Keeping it there I get hair over 7mpg. I'm happy with that.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
The Evolution with 3.25 and od 10 speed runs 1400 at 70, 5 mph per 100 engine rpm.
I've not run more than regional, and sometimes pull a livehaul, so the only thing I'm certain of is its doing better than the 2013 with same transmission and 3.42 rears.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Engine and it's unique/specific TQ curve has a lot to do with it..
Some of the newer motors can do great at much lower RPMs while others can't... Even in the same engine family...but different power curve specsBean Jr. Thanks this. -
I’m looking to but a truck spec’d like this can anyone can I get your thoughts X15 565HP 18spd manual 2.64
