Is it an actual requirment to conduct a vehicle check every 150 or 200 miles when hauling hazmat. I do remember reading somthing about a tire check but ive also been told that this rule has been done away with.

the tire checks were done away with due to the possibility of a terrorist hijacking your rig when you are out of it........kinda stupid actually, as there will be times you will be out of your truck anyways.........!!!!!!

after this, there isn't any 2 hour/or mile rule

No matter, I still take 'em at 2 / 100. I need to get out and wee wee anyway.

Sides, God help ur butt if you've lost a placard and they catch you....... I always check 'em too. A good offense is the best defense.

yes, absolutely. get out and squirt the dirt, do a quick walk around. i too have had the paper placards fly off, and had to replace them.

its just not required we do it anymore as per DOT. but no harm if we do.

My carrier suggests that every time you stop, you should be checking your tires - and with CSA being the name 'o the game, the lights too. But... you should do that as a matter of course whether you're hauling hazmat or not!

I believe in Ontario Canada you need to stop and check your vehicle every 200 miles and it does not matter if you are hauling haxmat or not.

    Stupid rule in my book.

I have elogs and every 2 hours or 100 miles I stop walk around truck and do on duty time for the walk around tire check on my elogs just to make sure I don't have any problems. Rather be safe then be put in jail or have to pay a ticket, I'm not fond of those options!!!

When I stop I recently found out in a log class that if it's a quick walk around I am allowed to draw a straight line down from 3 to 4 and write the city/state, and under that I would write "tire check 5 minutes" and continue with the line 3 from there. Of course you have to pop the brakes so the qualcomm will report back to base that you did indeed park.

Pretty much anything that takes you less than 7 minutes can be just a flag.
