Have had it numerous times and Freightliner says they can't find anything wrong. All I get from them is a bill for doing nothing! I have 300,000 on it now and it is clunking just like it did the day I pulled the first full load...

Thanks anyway! I read somewhere it could be flat spots on the S can or rollers but they won't check that they say that's not possible.

i was once told, by a dealer mechanic mind you, that the sounds are the frame flexing. every freight shaker i ever drove, made sounds, perhaps much like you describe. the mechanic and i went for a test drive, and that is what he heard.

you say it is the front end, is it closer to say around the firewall area.>??

that's where i would hear it.

Ohh, it clunks when you apply the brakes? I had that problem also and the shops were saying nothing was wrong...

you know one steer will start to brake under light braking so it starts pulling to one side then there is a clunk and he other brake starts to work. Not good for the winter.

One shop replaced the can but I didn't have the truck for long enough after that to notice if that was really the issue.

It sounds like your slack adjuster adjusting. When you're loaded, it takes more brakes to stop then empty, so it has to adjust more often.

When I hook up to a different trailer, after I hook up airlines, I set the truck brakes and release the trailer brakes, then pull down the trailer brake lever and listen. Usually if the brakes need adjustment it will pop similar to the sound you're describing.
