There are many different types of trucking all done 3 ways. Local, regional, over the road. Making money is nice no matter the profession but trucking will not work if you do not enjoy trucking or are not good at driving. If you aren’t good at driving a car backing up a truck will give you anxiety attacks. That being said it can be stressful if you can’t manage people. Gotta manage your clock, deal with dispatchers, deal with shippers and receivers, find parking, find food or grocery shop -otr-regional-
Then you’d have to decide if you want to stay in dry van or pull tankers ( gotta learn how to load unload, deal with surge, pull flatbed (you’d had to learn how to chain and tarp) .line haul or pull doubles there’s plenty of ways to do it.
A couple questions to ask
Do you have kids/ wife ? If so a local or regional job might be better
Are you ok with missing holidays or family events?
Would you be ok living in a truck or would you need a home?
Are you a mon-fri worker? Must you have weekends off?

I have wife but no kids, so I have to support my wife for rent.
For me its okay to live in a truck. I dont mind at all weekends and time. I can work everyday everytime at weekends also.
Thanks. -
That will get old and boring. Once you’ve seen everything it becomes just another job.

Next question. is your wife ok with you being gone 21 days at a time? Is she willing to get her cdl? If so y’all can team.(Best option). You can find companies with passenger policies and she can come along with you but the question is is she ok with living in the truck too.. If not life will get hectic and expensive you’d definitely need to put a roof over her head. And you are not guaranteed to make good money your first year. Soon as you get one year experience all doors open up for some reason in this industry long as you have a clean industry. I wish you success, just make sure you communicate your plan with your wife and make sure she understands cause that’ll be the stressful part

To get a job in the US you'd need a valid work visa, which are not easy to get as Trucking jobs come under the H2B visa category non- skilled short term labour funny huh? There is a cap on how many work visa's are issued per year and particularly in difficult times like recessions, and pandemics with lots unemployed its very difficult for a company to prove they can't hire local workers with over 10 % of the population unemployed. However in times of plenty when the economy is in full swing then the visa's are much more likely to be approved. The other option is to get your LPR (green card) which allows you to legally reside in the USA and work it is conditional for the first 2 years then you apply to get those conditions removed and gain permanent legal residency. If you have lots of money e.g in excess of $1,000,000 there is the invester visa ( EB-5) this allows you to invest in a regionally approved center of development with $900,000 where you must create 10 new permanent jobs over 2 years or invest in your own project for $1,800,000 and create 10 permanent fulltime jobs in 2 years. Basically your buying your green card and must be from a country that qualifies there is a cap on how many can apply from each country due to the popularity of the program and I guess the amount of people who are rich enough to be able to invest such quantities of money. Other ways are via marriage to a US citizen. Employment based sponsorship, and the DVlottery yes every year the US grants 50,000 green cards to people born in qualifying countries, provided they have a minimum of 12 years education, or have at least 2 years experience in a recognized trade, and are from a qualifying country. Registration for the DV lottery starts around October every year and runs for about 35 days in which a person has to register ONE entry only per year.homeskillet and RookieCascadia Thank this.

Of course not. It’s always nice to have a surprise. At least I wasn’t one of these guys saying how boring it is. Try telling that to a new guy doing an alley dock on the blind side the first time. Maybe even the 20th time lol.
