Na, I don't have the skills and really don't have the interest. It's a little late for me with that, I feel. With that mindset any time I'm sitting in the truck waiting I get trucking office stuff done. I run my own numbers, there is always something to do. What you do is a lot more complicated than what I do. Applaud you for keeping the office running. When did you go O/O and how?

I worked for a big shipping company for 25 years, the last 10 running regional in a tractor trailer. Left it to try to figure out how to be self employed. I had help since she has a good job and insurance. Ran expedite for awhile in a Ford van, hated dispatchers. Then I drove my buddy's TT for a few months but hated dealing with dispatch.

I saved up, cashed out a little retirement and started reading a ton here and talking to other owners. I got my authority in mid 2018. By early this year I had everything paid off. I even bought a Tundra and her a new car in that time and paid cash.

There is a ton of good info on this forum. If you pay attention you'll pick up a lot from owners here.

I agree with the family advice. We’re all very much out to help each other, but they plan to retire from ownership. Just imagine 20 out of 30 ish O/O’s running tx and ok together keeping a eye out for each other, it’s primarily brothers, uncles, grandpas, and close friends. But we all want a good out plan for the owners, they put us on a good gig and gave a lot who had nothing a good opportunity. Had some guys netting 180k home 5 nights a week. To sum up, decently good boundaries and a lot of love in our gig.

Are you planning to ever break into apps? If you can save and afford to hire people to build it for you with NDA contracts you can run a lot of the non code portion while in the truck over the phone. Lots you can do with the time we have

Started out in March 2018. Bought a 2006 century from my family (owns the trucking company) for 11k. Ran only rail yard (still only rail yard) and netted 90k running 5 days a week, home daily. This year has been up and down, but I’ve steadily netted 1500-4K per week, working 3-5 days a week. I’m a father of three daughters, happily married, and feel as though trucking is a great field with countless ways to run your way.

Prior to driving truck I was a aerospace welder building aircraft, military, and parts of the sort. Read all sorts of stuff about truckers starting out making close to nothing, hating it, discouraging others. Prior to starting a family and welding, I was a homeless teen sponging alcohol and loving drugs.

I’ve always viewed the world as an ongoing opportunity, although I lucked out with my uncles owning the business, I feel that with the right perspective almost anyone can make trucking work either as a career, or a great way to build start up capitol.
