The way mine works, I cannot drive if it has been 8 hours or more since my last 30 minute off duty or sleeper break.

All but our fleet vehicles are exempt from ELD's since we are driveaway/towaway.

This 30 minute break is a crock anyways, you can stop every couple hours or whatever, kick the tires, have a squirt, whatever but it won't count towards a break. All in the name of safety, a guy that's stoppin' every couple hours or so or a guy that's runnin' 8 hours straight then taking 30. I don't get it.

Hourly, percentage, cpm, whatever fmcsa does not care about pay. On duty, off duty, it's all the same in reguards to pay.

So if you choose sleeper does that mean you have to sit in the sleeper and off-duty you can't go into the sleeper? Dumb question but just curious.

if you are in sleeper that's where you are supposed to be .. off duty you can be anywhere you want ... I don't log sleeper unless I am logging a dumb ### split sleeper ... they were supposed to get rid of that fckin half hour break and add that 3 hr break to the 14 hour clock but it made sense so the house voted it down. ... at least the Democrats and Republicans can agree on one thing screwing us

Question was about the 8 hour rule, not 14

they work together sometimes like when you have 57 minutes of drive time left and if you took a half hour break you would have 45 minutes left that's when you're again't the 14 hour clock so you actually 75 minutes of driving time left ... they kinda work to gether sometimes
