I have no doubt, but am curious what tranny way available in 95 behind one of these torque monster that was not rated for the torque. I don't know the numbers, but am betting going from stock 430 to 370, the torque didn't gain a whole lot. Mine is alright for what it is, but it has it's limitations, and sure hasn't been hard on trannies or rears.

It's mostly the injectors that determine the horsepower.
A long time ago Detroit figured out that about 30 degrees of pulsewidth was ideal so everything from the little 11.1 to the big 14L HK has very similar injector duration. They just pick the injector that will give them the desired hp/tq and keep them in that "sweet spot". Then they pair it with an adequate turbo and make little adjustments to fine tune it.swaan Thanks this. -
What's your engine serial number? I'll look it up and tell you exactly what's different between it and a 500hp BK
-
How muck hp depends on the pistons. For big hp you need the ones with cooling nozzles. Talk to Detroit with serial number, they can tell you what internals you have.
Diesel control service in PA can set your ecm to match what you have. Mine has his triple play with hp settings of 500,600 and 700. Ran it set at 600 for over 500k miles with no problems, got over a million miles on a overhaul and no failure.
Look them up online and watch his videos. -
It was an Eaton, but the truck was an old USXpress FLD (before they went auto). Honestly, I think it could have handled it, but the dealership that sold it to me said that they couldn't warranty it if I turned it up any higher than 430/470.

I do not know what was different about them, but the older wallmart trucks had iirc 370 horse engines, but they had torque, it was obvious watching them pull a hill that they were torquey for what they advertised horsepower.
I had a couple of friends that drove for them back then and they claimed that at any time they did not average 7 mpg, they went in for a tune up too. -
A lot of them came with 470/430/370 settings in the ecm but they all had the same torque. They used the exact same fuel map right up until 1650 or 1950 (depending where it was governed) then they'd just cut the flow back to get less hp for each setting but the peak tq would be the same so it would still pull the same unless you really reved the p*ss out of it. This one being a 330/360 is going to have smaller injectors thoughbzinger Thanks this.

I think you guys up there have different emmission standards as far as setting the parameters in the ecms go too, I know the canadian trucks would pull , not just detroits either but the cats too. I always wanted to stop and get a tuneup over there, but never took the time.

In the early 90s when I drove for hill bros. In Omaha they were big into 12.7s set at 430hp coupled to super 10s ...had some 470s to and never could tell the difference.
In the same time frame penske leasing had some 350 to 370 to 400 Detroit's in fld's with 9 speeds .
Werner also had tons of trucks with the same set up .
They wernt dragsters but got the job done along with good mpg .
