    Fuel hauling

Same as you; retired from the Military last year. Got into Oilfield trucking locally, then started having to go across the state for work. Put an app in for a fuel hauling job and got hired. Home every night, but I do average around 400 miles a day.

Food services is hard work but gets easier with time, that being said, some days you want to just jump on the bus home. I'm home every night and do around 50-55 hrs over 4 days, thats 70+k a year. work your 5th day and you can see well into the high 80s low 90s.

but its not for everybody, i dont even know if its for me, but the money, union benny's and pension is keeping me going back every morning??

OP in one year you will understand why a lot of companies prefer drivers with experience. There are a lot of things that your trainer or school teaches you that you find out on the road. If I owned a trucking company I wouldn't want newbies tearing up my equipment or being late due to bad planning.

I got signed up with an LTL carrier two days after getting out of the military. I am home every night, sleep in my own bed, have full benefits, off weekends, clear $55k/year, work less than 60 hours a week, am non-union, and I've never spent a day in my life in a sleeper cab. Don't let what these guys tell you discourage you from applying. This whole one year OTR experience is a myth. There are many of us that get hired on right away out of school.

Yes you can. But be home every night? I don't know. I do well over that figure however I spend a night or two out on the road throughout the week. Home on weekends.

The jobs are out there but you need to find a specialty company. You're not likely to find what you're looking for in a general freight company

You beg for mercy from a mod.

Second option: You edit the post and hope no one has quoted it before you have finished such action.

I am home every day. I run nights as a linedriver. I do spent a night or two each month in a hotel if they lay me over when I run out of hours. In the full year I have worked, this has happened seven or eight times. My pay is based on where I live. My counterparts on the westcoast in the bigger cities will make more due to their cost of living.
