I was company driver at transam. About 4 years ago in Illinois I receieved ticket at scale for being overweight on 1 of my trailer axles. $1200 or more that the company paid. It was a mechanical issue. All weight was on one axle.
500$ ticket, it is NOT reasonable

So many people suggesting "pulling off onto the shoulder and walking inside" if you miss the ramp. If you're pulling a placard load with certain classes of HM, that in and of itself is another violation unless the shoulder is wide enough for you to be at least 5' from the traveled portion of the road or highway. Sure, there is an exception for necessity of operation if no other practical parking arrangements can be found, but the DOT could easily point to their parking lot and say "You should've pulled in" as they write that citation and then it would another issue for you to fight in court.
§ 397.7
Much easier to just not drive on roads that have scales on them...then you don't have to worry about "missing" the sign.Straight Stacks, EZ Money, ethos and 1 other person Thank this. -
Go to court plead guilty and ask the judge if he can help you with the fine. Or get a lawyer and pay more than $500. Or fight it yourself in court and take the chance to lose $500. That is all the options laid out there.

Everyone daydreams sometimes, if a driver tells me he doesn't I'll just nod my head and smile. I've blown a scale once, there was a rest area about a mile up the road. I pulled in there and took a 30, not sure if they sent anyone after me but I didn't want to find out.

I don't daydream the #### sun is just always in my eyes!!!!

The real violation here is hauling hazmat tanker for only $700 a week.
The problem with Prepass is it makes drivers complacent. They don't even see the Weigh Station 2 Miles, they rely on that little credit card reader to beep for them.
Same thing with automatic trucks, they don't have a feel for what the equipment is doing, just mash it down and hit cruise let the electronic stability control and front radar take care of any problems.
Meanwhile the driver just takes a waking nap all spaced out totally unaware of what happend in the last 60 miles.Mudguppy Thanks this.
