You're right there! A long time ago I pulled one of those short trailers that are usually hooked up to another for doubles, I think it's 24'? Got used to backing a 53' into places so tight that people would stop and watch me, just hoping for a screw up. Anyways, this little dang trailer had me chasing it in reverse all around the places I tried to back it into. Was definitely a trip, thought it would be easier than a 53 footer. Learn something new every day

57’ is ridiculous and the crazy part was since TX has no tandem placement laws most were run with the tandems all the way back. With the right tractor they actually looked cool that long.

I used to see Weiner bring them into Cactus Tx meat plant 20+ years ago. That plant used every bit of a Cow, except the very end of the tail..... maybe corporate didn't want to be part of the Key Fob biz. I hauled bile out of there once, i told gateguard that i was hoping to do mucus after that. She just said that goes on railcar, then said "you dont wanna know". Which made me want to know

I have a pic somewhere of that Dalhart dual 57' rig in a KS Turnpike service plaza; with 114' of trailer, 9 axles on the ground, the entire rig was something like 135' long. The driver had to park it on the right side curb in front of the building because it would not fit into the truck lot. That rig covered the ENTIRE length of the front lot for the plaza!

Wayne Daniel trucking out of Springfield, Mo. comes to mind. 57' with Freightliner c/o. I believe they hauled a lot of glass bottles. And used every inch of floor space.

In the late 80s and early 90s dart /fleetline ran them in the south ,mostly Texas.
After fleetline was dissolved they disappeared.

Yep, I pulled my fair share of 57s with Fleetline in the early-to-mid 90s. We couldn't go into Georgia but we could run Miami to Colorado and several more states (Colorado may be an exaggeration but you get the point, it was a lot of states). Had to stop at certain places in Arkansas and get permits for that state, though.

I remember the first time I pulled one. Started in Dallas and had a short run to somewhere Louisiana. I stopped at the Flying J in Greenwood, LA for a break and once backed in, I realized I still stuck waay out past the other trucks in the line. It's certainly not something I want to do in today's trucking industry.

Total length of the truck and trailer was 99'
