Oil and coolant will mix. There’s a little‘radiator’ inside the oil cooler housing.

My temp’s usually 20 degrees warmer than coolant. Pressure under 40, warmed up. Only time it hits 50-52 is when first running, or after an oil change. If your oils running hot, I’d imagine it would also be running thin. Pressure would be lower, not higher. If blow by tubes blocked it will run higher pressures. Both scenarios will cause a lot of oil seepage from everywhere. Not saying that’s the problem. Don’t know. Never heard of an oil cooler getting plugged up. Usually just gets a pinhole from coolant corrosion. If you ever change it, be sure to remove the whole housing and replace the o-rings that seal it to the block. Maybe just a gauge or wiring problem. Let us know either way. Always trying to learn.

General rule for anything if oil hits 250 degrees you're damaging the oil.

I'd be verifying the accuracy of that gauge before doing anything else.

Thank you, I only put 9,000 miles on a year so I do oil change before winter storage and oil analysis, shows no coolant in the oil. Yeah 1994 thing is older than me those gauges have been bouncing around for awhile.

That’s what I have heard 240 under big load usually getting to the max you want to be. I’ve never had a gauge in it (probably not the smartest I know) and it’s basically the only truck I have drove so I don’t have a baseline.

That all makes a lot of sense, I do have a small deep that a couple drops come out here and there when it’s running a big load but doesn’t leak sitting it’s where trans lines up with engine. I wonder if my engine pressure gauge is off as well it runs at 48-50 all day or if that’s separate problem. My friend who I bought it from owned it for a long time and said the pressure and temp were the same when he owned it. I have had the oil cooler seals replaced it leaked once before, oil started streaming out. The truck is not near me and won’t be for a couple weeks but I will find a way to hook up to the ecm and see what it says verse the gauges and update here. Thanks could always call a mechanic but it’s more fun to hear from real truckers

What is the little mini radiator in front of the radiator on the bottom, I always thought that was an oil cooler for some reason so have never really looked at it I thought maybe that was bad does your Detroit have one?

no there is a way smaller one down in the bottom middle in front of the normal radiator. I just replaced AC condenser last month.
