Yep, I did one of those once...on-duty 1hr, drive 4hrs, wait for some other driver hazmat cleanup on interstate 6hrs, finish my linehaul 6hrs, on duty 1hr. That 6hrs of waiting on the hazmat cleanup was my "short break" and when I got home I went into sleeper berth status for my "long break."

The thought of running splits gives me a stomach ache in my brain. I just say "no" to driving this way

My question is the same for Samsara. I could have sworn there were only 2 authorized split times 2/8 and 3/7. I've seen Samsara do weird things with splits after being off for 4+ hours seeming to treat that as a 4/6 split or something, or at least pausing the clock for 4+ hours instead of stopping at 3.

Your 14 clock stops regardless if u do a 6 break or a 3.. it will be stopped aftet 2 hours, til u go back on duty after ur break.. But it will only treat it as an 7/3 or an 8/2 because they are the only split breaks that exist currently.. it is how the rule works

The "short" break can be 2 or 3 or even 6hrs long. Hell, the short break could be 9hrs off-duty...it'll stop the 14hr clock all the same...but you would still need to pair that 2, that 3, that 6, or even that 9 with a minimum of 7hrs later in sleeper status for the "long" break.

When I run marching band truck in the summer our short breaks are 5hrs long (when the band performs) then we hit the road for 6hrs and put in 7hrs in the sleeper berth thereafter.
