  3. There are some key points to note for all of you that after reading through my earlier posts, I failed to list. They DO NOT PAY YOU FOR ORIENTATION. Also, they will book your travel arrangements for you but YOU WILL PAY YOUR OWN WAY THERE. They are going to deduct my flight ($437) from 2 settlements. I had the option to ride a bus, but I don't roll like that. In business, it takes spending money to make money and that's how I look at it. The hotel, your cost as well. I know that some may view this like, "if they want me to come work for them, then they should pay me to come here." I know this is a mindset, because that is what the other L/P driver in my orientation said to me. I said, "i think you have it twisted. You're the one who wanted to work for A&A. Not the other way around." I know a few things to be fact. 1, I'm very capable of doing this OTR L/P thing and I have no doubt that I'll be successful in whatever I decide to do in life. 2, working anywhere is an opportunity. I'm not owed anything, the only thing I expect from an employer or carrier that I'm contracted to, is to be compensated for my services fairly. If you've read the Art of War, and approach business, specifically your trucking business, which is what L/P is, then you'll remember a passage on there about both sides winning. In war, both sides can win. Just like business, both sides can win. I believe that if you approach life and all of its many obstacles in such a manner, you will be successful. That being said, my e-log is acting up so guess who's been running paper logs since Wednesday. :) Aloha everyone.

I just left there... That truck has 45k on it from someone turning it in. I had 1613.
They did not spread the insurance, maintaince, plates, or anything else after the first time I took time off... Instead they hit me for everything plus a truck payment. Put me in the negative every time I left home. First time took three weeks before I saw a check.

I hope you live close by the yard or in a label for them. If not you are going to eat a ton of dead head miles when you want to go home.

I had to leave for personal reasons, and planned on coming back till the screwing I got when I turned that truck in. Tim will tell you after you drop it off the lease ain't exactly walk away.
They will back charge you for the free weeks they give in the beginning, they charge you for the full amount of the plates, they charge you for the full 2290. And you won't get your maintenance money back.

I was owed 5126.00 on my final statement, I got 1300 after waiting two weeks and multiple calls to Tim.

In the end, I would go buy a truck or run company. I won't lease again.

I read in another thread you were averaging around .88cpm with A&A is that true?

  6. I get it. Sometimes personal stuff happens. I know the guy that got 1613. I bought his chains off of him. It's unfortunate that you had to leave. I can really see myself staying and being happy, the plan for when I go on hometime is for them to hold money back from the settlement prior to my hometime, and then applying it to the week that I'm home.

Good that your thinking ahead and planning.

  8. But I've been running 4-5 weeks with jct and taking 10-14 days off for the past 6 years. It helps that I live in Idaho where my house payment is 850. But I budget like a lunatic and plan like a psychopath. It is what it is.

    truckon Thanks this.

In the beginning with the crappie loads they put on new bs, yeah that was correct. It did get better....
I'm not saying Dan and Sue aren't good people, and they do go out the way to help out... But you better not sign that contract with out asking a bunch more questions.... I would make them put in writing exactly what is your weekly deductions, what exactly they will charge if something happens and you have to leave...

Once you get the settlement and see exactly how the categorize everything, you will see exactly what I'm saying.

I was like you and was happy during orientation. I had to learn what people care there.... And there isn't many.

Good luck with whatever you do... I happened up on a great deal where I can be home a lot.

Htr, Is your lease throught roadrunner or through a&a? If it's a roadrunner lease are you able to move to one of their other branch companies if you wanted to? Also, were you able to get a copy of the lease to look over a few days before signing it? If I do a lease I would really like to look it over 1st....I want to make sure it's a true "walk a way" if needed.

Why would you do that? lease ops need not be scared of negative settlements. What is important is positive cash. Could be the positive settlement or positive bank account.-- Preferably both but if one works hard and has several thousand dollars saved up and the settlement is negative, it is really nothing to be concerned about.

Gotta get out of the week by week mentality and stretch out to the quarter by quarter or even year by year. Consider there are 52 weeks in the year but most likely the lease op will only work about 40 or so of those weeks. Stands to reason some of the weeks are going to be negative but it all washes out in the end with a calculator one would see that they are very much positive at the end of 52 weeks (if they are running their show correctly).
