A little secret about windshield wipers for your truck

Serious tho. The biggest thing that kills the blades down here is bugs. You cannot cut thru the bugs with the blades. They tear the rubber up no matter the quality. When you get in rain with a windshield covered in bugs you need to sit back and let the wet soften the bugs awhile before you wipe. That first wipe will destroy a brand new set of blades. The thing that sucks about new wiper setup’s is they squirt blinker fluid only when in the wipe mode. The old setup let you squirt and soak before you turned on to wipe.
Always hated when a dot bear would want to check wipers during a random roadside on a nice southern summer day with a windshield covered in love bugs or butterfly’s. Smear city and an instant blade killer.

 

Would not be surprised. Had a factory Toyota battery fail few year ago, it was 15 years old.

 

Here’s my tip for dealing with bugs: add about four ounces of Fabuloso cleaner to the windshield washer fluid. It doesn’t foam, and it dissolves the bugs much better than straight blue stuff.

I have used Toyota parts on my Prius' except for the wiper blade for the windshield.

The blame mounts to the hook on the arm are known to break under normal usage; they are very good, but when they break, they will come off. Toyota knows the problem, they won't fix it because, as one regional manager said "we don't sell a hell of a lot of them, so why redesign them?" and he mentioned that in the Japanese market (which matters to Toyota), they are changed often.

I went to RainEx, replacing them in the spring and fall, and never had an issue.

 

Ive found rainex in summer and a good winter wiper when snow flies are the best combo. Also as was mentioned, bugs murder wipers. So i typically replace them every 3 months or so. They are cheap as hell compared to a wreck so meh.

Works better then trying to get years out of a single blade imo.

 

Back in 2021 Trico had a huge private recall on three different grade levels of their blades. All had the universal fit design. The reason was they would come off while in use and the arms would then scratch into the glass. The recall included aftermarket and oe new inventory not ones already sold and used. We picked up thousands of them from stores and car dealerships, all different lengths to test them. Never could get them to fly off. We had bunches break during installation and removal tho. We came to the conclusion it was installer error. Trico told us to just have waste management pick them up in a roll off for trash. All our employees kept boxes and boxes of them in the lengths they needed. We figured if we couldn’t get them to break after installation = free blades for life.
