I'm beginning to see how this little tryst between these drivers happened.
As I was getting ready to leave, a middle aged woman pulls in to get her door. She circles the yard a couple times trying to figure out the best way to get her trailer in the dock. This particular place takes a little getting use to for inexperienced drivers, but it isn't that bad. She has to alley dock in between two trucks, and there isn't enough room to straight back it in, so you need to set up right to get it in the slot. The driver next to me gets out to guide her back, but she's not following his instructions very well, and she can't align up right. Then he gets in the truck to back it in for her, and he can't get it in the slot either. I'm waiting for my phone to ring to pick up my BOL and get out of there, but I try to tell the guy that he's bleeding all of the air out of the tanks and needs to charge them up before trying again. He's never driver an automatic. He sits there but doesn't wait for the air to charge enough and it won't go into gear. He finally looks at me, and I don't want to take the responsibility of backing somebody else's truck, but I figure it's the only way to get it done and get out of there. There are warning lights and bells going off like crazy in the cab for an overheating clutch, low air pressure and proximity alarms. (new Peterbilt with 12 speed auto). I release the brakes, put it in neutral and idle it up for a minute until both tanks are fully charged, and back it right in. She was grateful, VERY grateful, but I'm not into taking advantage of the situation, plus my wife probably wouldn't be thrilled with the idea either. I figured this is probably how the other driver wound up in the situation he was in.Rideandrepair, Bakerman, FlaSwampRat and 2 others Thank this. -
