I was involved in a rear end collission on i10 in Texas about an hour from el passo. My truck was hit by another semi. Cops cited the other guy. I'd just like to know how this could affect me. If at all. I'm still on my mentors truck and he's not to well versed in this stuff.

If you are a trainee, you will be ok. Thankfully. The storm will splash from Company down hill towards your Trainer. If other driver was cited, then it's his problem.

Don't stress. Keep your eyes and ears open, listen to how the situation caused the company people around you to talk to your trainer. That should be worth a few lessons for the future.

Is it still a dot reportable? The truck that hit me was obliterated. No way he could drive off. He riped his tandems out from under his trailer...

How long has your mentor been driving? Typically speaking, as long as you were where you were supposed to be, doing what you were supposed to be doing, getting rear-ended isn't going to affect you much. Now if you got pushed into the vehicle in front of you, then questions arise to your own following distance and why you didn't leave more space in front...but from the sound of things, that wasn't the case, so no worries. You can't control what the idiot behind you is going to do, and you sure can't force him to pay attention.

It's going to be reportable. But again it's his ###. To be ... blunt.

Tandems are blessed easy to rip off there is only like 4 pins holding them on in addition to a few pairs of thin brackets to slide them on. I can imagine already the force of impact.

What I failed to ask until now, is how did both of you ride the impact? Most of the time seats and restraints are focuse towards the collision from front and not hits in the rear. You both ok?

Yes, it is DOT reportable if you were involved and a wrecker or ambulance was needed. Even if you weren't at fault.

Yeah were both good. No one was hurt. The girl in the other guys bunk was complaining of some wrist pain but that's the most severe it got. I was slowing for the border check point about 40 miles from van horn and he just ran right into me. My truck survived. His not so much....

Under the current CSA rules, crashes are scored against every CDL driver involved regardless of who was at fault. Since his was towed away and possibly yours, it becomes DOT reportable and you will be assessed 1 point on CSA x three for the first year, x two for the second year and x one for the third year after which the points fall off but you carry the crash report on your PSP for an additional two more years for a total of 5 years on your PSP.

Now they are working on a way to keep these points off drivers who were not at fault.

To see that kind of damage hurts me in the heart. Ive run a Century much and a FLD before that (Followed by the new KW's and so forth later) and think what are they doing in the truck factory. It's almost they don't give a #### for the old iron and survivablity.

If Girl in bunk got a wrist boo boo out of that and the windshield stayed in the brackets I think that was #### lucky either that or they had the crash web deployed with that girl in sleeper. Do you recall if there was a crash web for her back there in the bunk?

By the way Van Horn is looking mighty green this time of year. Must be good rains where you are.

You're fine but you will need to put this accident on applications.Who was driving you or mentor?Back when I was with trainer I was sleeping and trainer rolled his trk in Dodge City,Ks during a blizzard. He got demoted back to driver status and I got a new trainer.Don't know if he ever got fired.Trainer chose to keep driving rather then park it at the next truckstop plus he was traveling too fast for road conditions.
