Hope someone can give a good recommendation. Had tried QuickBooks but was expensive and not the most user friendly. Hired ATBS and honestly, they charge weekly and don’t really do anything. Submitted paperwork takes months to add to profit and loss statements, missing paperwork. I emailed asking what the weekly fee actually covers without a reply. Just need an efficient way to track the books. Thank you.

Granted, this was many years ago, but I found a simple, local accountant that was familiar with trucking, and he delivered me the bad news every quarter. Some things the computer just can't replace,,yet.

Do it yourself. Mine is a mix of my phone's notes app, a big folder for truck records/receipts and a 3 ring binder with literally everything else in it. That's IFTA's, DOT, banking, insurance, weekly run sheets, all of it.

Sitting down with the tax man is one hour a year.

I guess this is important, how many trucks? With just me and one truck I do most everything using these two old fashioned things called a pen and a calculator.

I use Profit gauges - it's $19/month and works for me because I'm terrible with spreadsheets. It's truck specific, free for 30 days if you just want to play with it and see if it works for you.

I second this. If you want to do it yourself but aren't completely comfortable Profit Gauges is great. I've wanted to try it for awhile but I'm lazy and set in my ways. I do use the Fuel Gauges app to track my fuel (in every vehicle I own actually) and I love it. It's free.

I used GNUcash. It’s a free open source accounting program. It’s not an online program it just runs on one computer.
But I use Apple products and was able to keep the files on iCloud and that worked between my laptop and home computer.

I use quickbooks. I bought the desktop version, it works great. The trick is having somebody set up templates for you and save them to memorized transactions. Some I have that are set to automatic so dont have to touch them. It makes it brainless and takes no time at all. And brainless I need when it comes to bookkeeping.
