I don't have to explain anything. Perhaps you'd like to explain to us why we should put a moratorium on safety enhancement to hold at 1990 levels or wherever you think we reached a "sweet spot".

The steel workers also "survived" building skyscrapers without any safety harnesses. Should we also go back to that era?

 

Can you point me to historical documents that show where this has happened? We've been "stupid-proofing" ever since the dawn of the modern era but I'm not seeing any indications we're about meet an impending doom as a result of this.

I agree in principal about allowing humans to get smart or die, but it's just not going to happen. The cat is out of the bag and there's no regressing from here on. Either accept it for what it is, or don't, but it's going to going on, regardless.

The Amish have a similar attitude about modern equipment... Sorry, I had to say it...I couldn't resist. I hate the front collision midigation crap as much as almost everyone else, but I use my cruise any time I am out of metropolitan areas with a speed limit above 65. It keeps me from being that driver that speeds up, slows down, speeds up every time I am being passed.
